On September 22, 2026, the “※To be discontinued successively” notice appeared on two set meals on Matsuya’s official website menu page: the “Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso Set Meal” and the “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal.” The two limited-time items, sold through summer and autumn respectively, are now both heading toward discontinuation.

How Long Can You Still Get Them?

The notice reads “※To be discontinued successively,” and the official website gives no specific end date. Because the wording is “successively,” the time when the items actually disappear from stores may vary by store.

Items that previously received this “※To be discontinued successively” notice have typically dropped off the menu page some time afterward. Most were delisted about one to two weeks after the notice appeared, but some stay listed much longer: the “Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl,” which received the same notice on August 25, 2026, is still listed about a month later. The actual end date therefore varies widely. For the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl, Matsuya’s official X account announced on September 20 that it “will be discontinued soon.”

For the two set meals this time, no post announcing discontinuation had appeared on the official X account as of September 22. For the Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso Set Meal, a post on September 17 had conveyed continued sales, saying, “The autumn classic ‘Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso’ is on sale now!!”

The Autumn Staple: Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso Set Meal

The Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso Set Meal had only just been released on September 8, 2026, so it was listed for just 14 days before the discontinuation notice appeared. In the official announcement at launch, it was introduced as “a long-beloved autumn staple every year for 18 years since its debut in 2008, truly Matsuya’s ‘sign of autumn,’” making it an annual autumn menu item.

The set meal (with rice and salad) costs 880 yen. Among the current set meal lineup, that is 30 yen more than the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal at 850 yen, and 10 yen less than the Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal, the Yakiniku Beef Set Meal, and the Pork & Kimchi Set Meal, all at 890 yen.

Size Price Calories
Only 680 yen 502 kcal
Set meal (with rice and salad) 880 yen 906 kcal
Double 1,370 yen 1,409 kcal

There were no changes to the price or calories between the release and the appearance of the discontinuation notice; it remains as it was at launch.

The Summer Staple: Pork & Kimchi Set Meal

The Pork & Kimchi Set Meal was released on August 25, 2026, and was listed for 28 days before the notice appeared. In the official announcement at launch, it was introduced as a summer staple that was “coming back for a limited time,” with Matsuya’s in-house “Mt. Fuji Kimchi” as the star.

The set meal costs 890 yen, exactly the same as the Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal and the Yakiniku Beef Set Meal, placing it in the same price range as those two yakiniku items. The Only price of 690 yen and the Double price of 1,380 yen are also the same as for those two yakiniku items.

Size Price Calories
Only 690 yen 430 kcal
Set meal (with rice and salad) 890 yen 839 kcal
Double 1,380 yen 1,273 kcal

The Pork & Kimchi Set Meal continued to be updated during its short sales period. Four days after release, on August 29, the Only price was revised from 650 yen to 690 yen, and on September 8 the nutritional values were adjusted upward, including the calories for the regular serving, which rose from 815 kcal to 839 kcal.

Other Menu Items That Changed the Same Day

On the same day, September 22, the “※To be discontinued successively” notice also appeared on eel menu items such as the “Grilled Eel Bowl,” which had returned as a store-limited item. Together with the nationwide launch of the new curry, “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice,” at 10 a.m. that morning, it marks a turning point at which menu items are being swapped out across multiple categories.

Editor's Note

The autumn spicy miso stir-fry and the summer pork and kimchi are both slated to end on the same day. It feels like a sign of the changing seasons.
