On September 18, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account posted a message thanking fans for their enthusiasm for the Japanese-style dessert “Soy Milk Pudding,” which had been sold as a side menu item for about two months, and asking readers whether they would support selling desserts as a permanent side menu item. The Soy Milk Pudding left the menu on September 8 and ended sales, so the question comes just 10 days after it ended.

The Full Post, and a Follow-Up to the August 28 Question

The full text of the post is as follows.

Thank you so much for all the love for the Soy Milk Pudding!

If Matsuya sold desserts as a permanent side menu item, would you order them?

This post is not a one-off; it continues a thread on the official X account about the Soy Milk Pudding. In the August 28 post announcing that sales were nearly over, the account had put this question to readers:

Matsuya’s ‘Soy Milk Pudding’ is ending soon 😢 If you haven’t tried it yet, get it while you can! What dessert would you like to eat next? (╹◡╹)

While the August 28 post collected wishes for “what dessert would you like to eat next,” this time the question goes a step further: “would you order desserts if they were sold as a permanent side menu item?” It can be read as a second round following the reactions to the earlier poll. The phrase “permanent side menu item” does not appear in any previous post from the official X account.

A Style Without Kaomoji or Emoji

Many posts from Matsuya’s official X account include kaomoji such as (╹◡╹) or emoji. Looking at posts over roughly the past three months, more than 60% use kaomoji and just over 30% use emoji. The August 28 post announcing the end of sales also carried both “😢” and “(╹◡╹)”. This time, however, the post uses neither kaomoji nor emoji; it is made up only of the exclamation mark “!” at the start and the question mark “?” at the end, keeping the text focused on a question to readers.

Neither this post nor the August 28 post has a corresponding announcement on the official website, and both appear to have been written exclusively for the official X account.

About Two Months of the Soy Milk Pudding: From Announcement to Discontinuation

The Soy Milk Pudding was announced in the official notice “New Proposal from Matsuya! Mellow, Rich Sweet ‘Soy Milk Pudding’ Now on Sale,” published on July 9, 2026, and was added to the menu five days later, on July 14. It was a side menu item served with kinako (roasted soybean flour) and kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) for 180 yen. Before its release, the official X account also teased it with a “mystery cup” whose identity was kept hidden.

The end of sales was then previewed on the official X account on August 28, and the item left the menu and ended sales on September 8. It was a limited-time offering that ran for about two months from its listing, 56 days in all. The end of sales was announced only on the official X account, with no notice on the official website. This latest post, “Thank you so much for all the love,” serves as its closing note.

The Permanent Side Menu Already Has “3 Pieces of Jelly”

The post asks, “If Matsuya sold desserts as a permanent side menu item,” but Matsuya’s side menu still includes “3 Pieces of Jelly” (150 yen). It has been a regular fixture since March 28, 2026, never placed in the limited-time category and never discontinued. Whether it counts as a dessert is a matter of interpretation, but there is already a sweet single item handled as part of the regular lineup.

No successor dessert has been added since the Soy Milk Pudding ended. Attention now turns to whether this question, which follows the August 28 “What dessert would you like to eat next?”, will lead to the introduction of a permanent dessert.

Editor's Note

The pudding that once vanished from the menu may be about to enter a surprise race for permanent status. We're also curious where that 3 Pieces of Jelly stands.
