Matsuya's 'Soy Milk Pudding' Discontinued After 56 Days on Sale

Matsuya Foods added the authentic Japanese-style sweet “Soy Milk Pudding” (180 yen, tax included) to the side menu at Matsuya on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. To coincide with the 10 a.m. launch that day, the item also began appearing in the menu list on Matsuya’s official website. The pudding is finished with the smooth, rich texture unique to soy milk, and comes topped with fragrant kinako and kuromitsu. It is available at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding Okinawa and some stores.

A Pudding-type Item Rare Among Nationwide Side Menus

Until now, “3 Jelly Cups” (150 yen) had been the only sweet-leaning item on Matsuya’s side menu. Soy Milk Pudding becomes the second sweet side item to follow it. It is rare for a pudding-named item to appear among the regular nationwide side menu, and having an item that puts “soy milk” front and center is also a novelty.

The current side menu lineup is mostly made up of savory items such as rice, soup, pickles, eggs, and meat plates, with only two sweet items: “3 Jelly Cups” and “Soy Milk Pudding.” The range of options for adding something sweet to round off a set meal is gradually expanding.

Priced in the Same 180 Yen Range as Egg-based Sides

The 180 yen price point is on par with “Sausage & Egg” and “Sausage & Soft-boiled Egg” among the side menu items. One tier below, in the 170 yen range, is “Grated Domestic Yam Paste,” while one tier above, in the 200 yen range, are items such as “Green Onion & Egg,” “Regular Serving Rice,” “Extra Cheese,” and “Small Serving Simmered Beef & Onion.” Compared with “3 Jelly Cups” (150 yen), the only other sweet item for comparison, it is priced 30 yen higher.

Nationwide Rollout Following a March Store-limited Release

An item of the same name, “Soy Milk Pudding” (written 豆乳プリン), first appeared as a store-limited item at around 200 locations starting March 17, 2026, before being removed from the menu on April 3. This latest Soy Milk Pudding rollout comes roughly three and a half months after that earlier release, expanding its availability to the side menu nationwide. The notation has shifted slightly: it was written in katakana as 豆乳プリン during the earlier release, and this time it is written in hiragana as 豆乳ぷりん. For details on the scale of the earlier store-limited rollout and the background leading to this launch, see the related articles.

The launch date, July 14, also coincides with the release date of “Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal,” a staple Chinese-style summer dish.

Editor's Note

Matsuya's lineup of sweet finishes to round off a set meal is gradually growing. Topped with kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) and kinako (roasted soybean flour), this one makes you want to order it alongside a post-meal tea.
