Matsuya Revises Nutritional Values for 3 Hiyajiru Items on Launch Day

MenuUpdated

Matsuya launched three Hiyajiru-related items nationwide at 10:00 a.m. on August 4, and it has come to light that their nutritional values were updated from their initial listings on the very day of launch. All five metrics — calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and salt equivalent — were affected. The biggest change was in the calorie count for the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set, which was revised down by 239 kcal, from 806 kcal to 567 kcal.

The Hiyajiru Vegetable Set, a limited-time set combining Hiyajiru with rice and vegetables, had all five metrics updated.

Item At Launch After Update Change
Calories 806 kcal 567 kcal -239 kcal
Protein 23.3g 19.2g -4.1g
Fat 41.3g 11.6g -29.7g
Carbohydrates 86.5g 93.6g +7.1g
Salt Equivalent 2.3g 4.8g +2.5g

At launch, the listed 41.3g of fat and 806 kcal were on the high side for a set that simply adds rice and vegetables to Hiyajiru Only (described below), but after the update those figures settled at 11.6g of fat and 567 kcal. The salt equivalent, meanwhile, more than doubled, from 2.3g to 4.8g.

For the side dish Hiyajiru Only, calories were raised from 162 kcal to 199 kcal, and salt equivalent from 2.7g to 4.7g.

Item At Launch After Update Change
Calories 162 kcal 199 kcal +37 kcal
Protein 12.6g 12.9g +0.3g
Fat 7.7g 10.8g +3.1g
Carbohydrates 12.0g 12.4g +0.4g
Salt Equivalent 2.7g 4.7g +2.0g

The post-update salt equivalent of 4.7g ranks among the higher side dish figures — a number befitting Hiyajiru’s cold dashi broth mixed with miso. At 390 yen, the price also sits a step above Simmered Beef & Onion (370 yen) among single-item sides, ranking among the pricier options aside from Grilled Eel Plate (760 yen).

Hiyajiru Only for Lunch (310 yen)

Hiyajiru Only, which can also be added as a Choice of Side for Lunch, received the same update as the side dish version — calories from 162 kcal to 199 kcal and salt equivalent from 2.7g to 4.7g (the other metrics also match the side dish version).

This Choice of Side slot has rotated through Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Only (120 yen), then Samgyetang-style Soup Only (210 yen), and now Hiyajiru Only (310 yen), switching from the samgyetang-style soup to Hiyajiru on August 4. The 310 yen add-on price is the highest among the Choice of Side options.

From May’s Trial Sale to Nationwide Launch

Hiyajiru had a store-limited trial sale in May as a Miyazaki specialty alongside Chicken Nanban, before going nationwide on August 4. Matsuya’s official X account had announced the end of the limited-time Samgyetang-style Soup on July 31 while previewing Hiyajiru’s arrival. The nutritional values were updated from their initial listings on that very launch day.

Editor's Note

Numbers shifting right from launch day make for a story worth following. That 4.7g of salt might just be Hiyajiru showing its true colors — cold, but bold in flavor.
