Matsuya's "The Katsu Curry and Rice" No Longer Sold at Any Store in Kawanishi, Hyogo

Matsuya Kawanishi-Nose-guchi (store #0860) has been removed from the list of stores serving “The Katsu Curry and Rice,” a store-limited menu item offered at Matsuya locations co-located with My Curry Shokudo. As a result, no Matsuya store in Kawanishi, Hyogo Prefecture now serves this menu item. The store itself remains open for business; only the menu item has been dropped from the list of participating stores.
Availability in Hyogo Now Limited to Kobe-Ikawadani and Takarazuka-Yasukura
A look at the list of stores serving “The Katsu Curry and Rice” shows that Matsuya Kawanishi-Nose-guchi, previously listed among Hyogo’s participating stores, has disappeared, leaving only Matsuya Kobe-Ikawadani (store #0694) and Matsuya Takarazuka-Yasukura (store #1852) serving the item within the prefecture. Since no other Matsuya store in Kawanishi carries this menu item, the city has effectively become a blank spot on the map for “The Katsu Curry and Rice.”
Kawanishi-Nose-guchi had been listed on the official website’s roster of participating stores since the menu item’s launch, appearing alongside Takarazuka-Yasukura and Kobe-Ikawadani as one of three Hyogo locations. This time, one of those three has dropped off the list, though the store itself continues normal operations. Every Hyogo store that carries this menu item is co-located with My Curry Shokudo, and Kawanishi-Nose-guchi shares that same co-located format.
The Store-Limited Signature Dish: “The Katsu Curry and Rice” at 690 Yen
“The Katsu Curry and Rice” is a store-limited menu item served at Matsuya locations co-located with My Curry Shokudo: rice and curry served on a white plate alongside a loin cutlet cut into five pieces. It’s marketed at 690 yen (tax included) with the tagline “At this price, we even made a sauce that goes perfectly with the katsu.”
The promotional image lines up two additional variations alongside the base 690-yen “The Katsu Curry and Rice”: “The Cheese Katsu Curry and Rice” at 890 yen, topped with melted white cheese, and “The Double Katsu Curry and Rice” at 920 yen, with two stacked loin cutlets. Takeout is available, and a note advises against serving it to infants under one year old because it contains honey. With Kawanishi-Nose-guchi off the list of participating stores, this dish can no longer be enjoyed at any Matsuya in Kawanishi.
51 Stores Nationwide, About 60% Concentrated in Tokyo
“The Katsu Curry and Rice” is currently served at 51 stores nationwide. Tokyo accounts for 31 of them—about 60% of the total—with the remainder spread across eight prefectures, as shown below.

The official website’s list of participating stores showed 53 locations in late June, then dropped to 52 on June 24 when Higashi-Omiya Ekimae was removed, and has now fallen to 51 with the removal of Kawanishi-Nose-guchi. While concentration in Tokyo continues, a pattern is emerging of regional stores dropping off the list one by one.

Anyone in Kawanishi with their eye on The Katsu Curry and Rice will now need to head to Ikawadani or Takarazuka instead. Even within the same prefecture, the number of stores serving it has shrunk considerably.
