A Dish That Evolved from the Revival General Election’s No. 1 Heads Toward Discontinuation
It has come to light that Matsuya’s New Grilled Beef Bowl has been marked “※To Be Discontinued Successively” on the official website. Sold for 690 yen in the Regular Serving and belonging to the bowl category, the item is reaching a turning point about 8 months after its December 2, 2025 release. The end date itself is not spelled out, but based on the pattern of past menu items that carried the same label, it is likely to reach its last chance to be eaten sometime in the not-too-distant future.
A Dish That Evolved from the Revival General Election’s No. 1 Heads Toward Discontinuation
New Grilled Beef Bowl was announced in an official notice dated November 27, 2025, titled “The Original No. 1 Popular Menu Item Breaks New Ground: New Grilled Beef Bowl Now on Sale,” with sales beginning at 10:00 a.m. on December 2 of the same year. The notice explained that the dish was an evolution of “Original Spicy-Savory Grilled Beef Bowl,” which won first place in the 2018 Revival Menu General Election, and that it was finished with a special oyster sauce-based dressing.
Though it emerged as a flagship-caliber menu item carrying the genes of the top vote-getter in that popularity poll, it has now been marked “To Be Discontinued Successively.” As of this writing, no official notice has been confirmed announcing either a successor product tied to this label or the reason for the discontinuation.
How Long Will It Be Available?
As the name suggests, the “To Be Discontinued Successively” label is a notice that each store will stop carrying the item, one after another, as soon as its stock runs out. Because the end date is not stated on the official website, there is no way to know a definitive “last chance to eat it” date.
Still, looking back at menu items that have previously carried the same “To Be Discontinued Successively” label, the time from when the label appeared to when the item disappeared from the official website’s menu list has ranged from as little as about 6 days, to around a week in most cases, to just under 3 weeks at the longest. Nearly half disappeared from the list within a week of the label appearing. If New Grilled Beef Bowl follows this same pattern, the time remaining is likely not very long.
Price, Size, and Nutrition
New Grilled Beef Bowl comes in 3 sizes — Small Serving, Regular Serving, and Large Serving — with the following prices and energy content.
| Size | Price | Energy |
|---|---|---|
| Small Serving | 660 yen | 675 kcal |
| Regular Serving | 690 yen | 800 kcal |
| Large Serving | 910 yen | 1,082 kcal |
The nutritional content of the Regular Serving is 25.0g of protein, 37.5g of fat, 88.1g of carbohydrates, and 3.6g of salt equivalent — a hearty composition befitting a bowl dish.
In terms of price, New Grilled Beef Bowl lined up exactly with Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Beef Bibim Bowl in the same bowl category, at 660 yen for Small Serving, 690 yen for Regular Serving, and 910 yen for Large Serving. However, unlike Kimchi Kalbi Bowl, which offers an Extra-large Serving (1,090 yen), New Grilled Beef Bowl tops out at Large Serving. Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl (630 yen for Regular Serving) sits a notch cheaper in the bowl category, a 60 yen difference from New Grilled Beef Bowl’s Regular Serving. An item that has held down the 690 yen price point is about to disappear.
A Regular on the List of Discount and Point Campaigns
New Grilled Beef Bowl is also a menu item that has repeatedly been named as an eligible product in Matsuya campaigns. It was included among the eligible items for the app-exclusive 50-point grant on bowl menu items starting March 31, and for the Bowl & Bento Point Boost (+50 points) running from July 1 to 7, and it was counted as one of the eligible main dishes for up to a 70 yen discount with the “Hiyajiru Set” released on August 4. Given how much of a regular it had been in everyday discounts, the discontinuation label is a bit of a wrench.
It should be noted that the “To Be Discontinued Successively” label is not unique to this case — it is a standard-form discontinuation notice that has also been used for other menu items in the past. In May, the same label was attached to “Seasoned Ground Chicken & Egg Bowl” in the bowl category, which disappeared not long after. For New Grilled Beef Bowl too, it is natural to read this label as a signal of the countdown to its last chance to be eaten.
Editor's Note
A bowl carrying the genes of the General Election's No. 1, finished with its special sauce, is nearing its last chance to be seen. If you've had your eye on it, you'll want to try it once before the label disappears.
