The video appears to be filmed at a table inside a store, with someone operating a smartphone while on-screen captions present the steps one by one.
The Three Steps Shown in the Video
According to the on-screen captions, using the coupon comes down to three simple steps.
- Open Matsuya’s official X account — Pull up the @matsuya_foods profile page and go to the pinned post announcing the coupon.
- Open the X Coupon image — Open the 390 yen Beef Bowl coupon image, which prominently reads ‘A Summer Vacation Support Project at Matsuya, too!’ A QR code is placed at the bottom of the image.
- Hold the QR code up to the ticket machine — Following the instruction on the ticket machine’s top screen, ‘If you have a coupon, hold it up to the QR reader,’ hold the smartphone’s QR code up to the scanner. Once it’s read, the screen displays ‘Coupon accepted.’
During step 3, the video also adds the caption ‘Taking a screenshot of the QR code works great too,’ explaining that saving the coupon image to your phone beforehand lets you scan it at the ticket machine without fumbling.
After acceptance, the video continues with ‘All that’s left is to choose from the menu screen!’, showing the ‘Beef Bowl Coupon Discount’ item listed under the ‘Coupon’ category on the ticket machine, marked with an ‘X Coupon Applied’ label. A Rare Post That Demonstrates How to Use a Discount via Video
It’s rare for Matsuya’s official X account to post a video walkthrough of how to use a discount; the most recent example was on July 1, when it introduced how to use the ‘Matsuya Pass’ app, which offers 70 to 100 yen off classic menu items. Whereas that video followed operations within the app screen, this one is different in that it demonstrates the flow unique to an X-based coupon, from the official X post all the way to scanning at the ticket machine.
This X Coupon began at 10:00 AM on August 11, and official X has rolled it out in stages: a countdown the night before, an announcement on the morning of the day itself reading ‘Activating in one hour,’ and a midday notice stating ‘You can also use the QR code in the posted image.’ The video walkthrough can be read as the finishing touch, pushing customers toward the actual steps to take. Also starting on the same August 11, a free service voucher distribution project and new menu items have been rolling out in parallel, layering multiple value campaigns onto Matsuya’s summer.
The video closes with ‘Use the X Coupon and save! We look forward to your visit!’, calling on customers to come in before the coupon expires at 10:00 AM on August 18.
