On August 6, Matsuya announced on its official website that it will launch the “Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl” and “Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl” from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The launch covers Matsuya, the chain that serves Beef Bowl, Curry and Rice, Set Meals, and other Bowl items, and will roll out nationwide except at some stores. Matsuya describes the pair as “two stamina bowls you can choose between depending on your mood that day, finished with a savory char from a special sauce that brings out the juicy richness of carefully selected beef and the crisp texture of the vegetables,” positioning them as “straight-up” menu items finished with a savory sear on the griddle.

Two Items Following the Official X Teaser From the Day Before

These two items followed on from a post on the official X account (@matsuya_foods) on the morning of the previous day, August 5. That post mentioned the discontinuation of the New Grilled Beef Bowl while hinting, “A new menu item to replace the New Grilled Beef Bowl is coming…?! Stay tuned.” The two items announced the following day, August 6, are the new menu items that followed up on that teaser.

The New Grilled Beef Bowl currently carries a “*To Be Discontinued Successively” note in the menu listing on the official website. The two new beef-centered bowls launching now have been positioned as new items that connect directly to that changeover period.

What’s Inside the “Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl” and “Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl”, and Their Prices

In the official product photos, both bowls are shown paired with Miso Soup. The Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl combines sauce-coated Boneless Short Rib and beef offal with vividly green garlic scapes, topped with white sesame seeds. Matsuya describes it as “the ultimate stamina-packed combination of richly savory beef short rib and springy, chewy beef offal, with colorful, crisp garlic scapes that whet the appetite.”

Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl layers thinly sliced yakiniku beef over stir-fried onion, topped with finely chopped Green Onion and white sesame seeds. Matsuya says the “all-new ‘finest sauce’” brings out the beef’s richness to the fullest, highlighting a flavor in which the sauce coats the savory stir-fried onion and juicy meat.

“Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl” Enters Its Third Year, With Both the Name and Price Shifting

A bowl combining short rib and offal has been rolled out every year as a Matsuya summer staple. Looking back at past announcements, it first appeared as the “Boneless Short Rib & Offal Bowl” (980 yen) launched on June 25, 2024, and returned under the same name and the same 980 yen price on August 12, 2025. This marks its third consecutive year, but the name has changed to “Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl” and the price has been raised by 10 yen to 990 yen. This is the first time both the name and the price have changed.

In terms of the interval between launches, the 413 days from the first year’s June 25, 2024 to the second year’s August 12, 2025 was on the early side even within summer, whereas the 364 days from the second year to this year’s launch (August 11, 2026) has settled into a roughly one-year cycle.

At 990 yen, the price ranks among the highest in the other Bowl category. It’s set above both the Extra-large Serving Beef Bowl (860 yen), the largest size of the Beef Bowl, and the Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) in the same category, putting it in a bold price range for a single-item bowl.

“Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl” Matches the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl at Every Size

The other item, Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl, has prices across its three sizes (Small Serving 600 yen / Regular Serving 630 yen / Large Serving 850 yen) that match, to the yen, all three sizes of the existing Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl. The beef yakiniku bowl has been positioned at exactly the same price as the pork salt-based green onion bowl across every size.

Bowls billed as beef yakiniku have themselves appeared intermittently before, each time under a different name. Following the Salt-based Green Onion Beef Yakiniku Bowl (590 yen) launched on September 19, 2023, and the Two-Topping Yakiniku Beef Bowl (780 yen) launched on August 6, 2024, this new Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl is again a new name distinct from the previous two. The sauce and combination of ingredients change each time as well, so it’s more accurate to view this not as a rerelease of the same product but as the beef yakiniku bowl format being rolled out again this summer. This time, the emphasis is on an all-new “finest sauce.”

An offal bowl loaded with garlic scapes, and a yakiniku bowl with an all-new sauce — both are the kind that keep the rice coming.
