Matsuya Launches Two Chicken Nanban Items Today at 10 AM, Including the 1,300 Yen Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set

Matsuya launched the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set (1,300 yen) and the Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen) at 10 AM on August 18, at stores nationwide except in Okinawa Prefecture. Both items combine Hiyajiru and Chicken Nanban, which the company describes as specialties of Miyazaki Prefecture, and mark the second installment in the summer “Hiyajiru” series that began on August 4. This is the first time a product bearing the Chicken Nanban name has appeared on Matsuya’s current regular menu.

Both items were announced in advance in an official notice dated August 13 and in a post on the official X account on August 14, and as announced, they appeared on the menu page today.

Prices and Nutritional Information for the Two New Items

The details of the two items listed on the menu page are as follows. The Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set is offered only as the 1,300 yen set, while the Chicken Nanban Set Meal comes in two versions: the 780 yen item alone, and the 980 yen version with rice and salad.

Second-Highest Price in the Set Meal Category at 1,300 Yen

At 1,300 yen, the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set is the second most expensive of all 13 items in the Set Meal category, behind only the Cheese Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal and the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal (1,380 yen each). It costs 20 yen more than the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal (1,280 yen) and 120 yen more than the standard Umatoma and Brown Sauce Hamburg Steak Set Meals (1,180 yen each), placing it among the top-priced set meals.

Compared with the existing Hiyajiru Vegetable Set (730 yen, meat-free), which uses the same Hiyajiru, the new set costs 570 yen more, reflecting how pairing Chicken Nanban with Hiyajiru pushes up the price.

The “Hiyajiru” Set Meal Starts at 780 Yen for the Item Alone

The Chicken Nanban Set Meal lets customers enjoy Chicken Nanban on its own, available in two versions: the 780 yen item alone, and the 980 yen set meal with rice and salad. The 320 yen difference from the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set (1,300 yen) represents the premium for adding Hiyajiru.

The “Hiyajiru” Series, Launched August 4, Expands in Earnest with Its Second Installment

The two new items extend a rollout that has gradually expanded the Hiyajiru series this summer. Hiyajiru on its own (390 yen) launched nationwide at 10 AM on August 4, alongside the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set. On August 11, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set moved from the store-limited category to the regular Set Meal page, as the series steadily took root in the Set Meal category.

Going back further, Hiyajiru was test-sold at 70 stores nationwide from May 5 to 11. During that period, on May 7, the official X account posted, introducing both dishes together: “This week’s test sale features Miyazaki specialties Hiyajiru and Chicken Nanban!” The pairing first previewed at the test-sale stage has now taken shape as a single product, the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set, roughly three and a half months later.

With the standalone item’s early launch on August 4, the Vegetable Set’s move into the Set Meal lineup on August 11, and the addition of the two Chicken Nanban items on August 18, the Hiyajiru-centered menu rollout has grown considerably richer over the past two weeks.
