Matsuya Launches Two Chicken Nanban Items Today at 10 a.m., Including the 'Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set' for 1,300 Yen

Matsuya launched the “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set” (1,300 yen) and the “Chicken Nanban Set Meal” (980 yen) at 10 a.m. on August 18 at stores nationwide except Okinawa Prefecture. Both items pair hiyajiru and chicken nanban, which Matsuya presents as Miyazaki specialties, and they form the second installment of the summer “Hiyajiru” series that began on August 4. It is the first time an item named for chicken nanban has appeared on Matsuya’s current regular menu.

Both items were announced in advance in an official notice dated August 13 and an official X post on August 14, and as announced, they were listed on the menu page today.

Prices and Nutrition for the Two New Items

The breakdown of the two items listed on the menu page is below. The Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set is offered only as a set at 1,300 yen, while the Chicken Nanban Set Meal comes in two versions: 780 yen Only, and 980 yen with rice and salad.

At 1,300 Yen, the Second Most Expensive in the Set Meal Category

At 1,300 yen, the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set is the second most expensive of the 13 items in the set meal category, behind the Cheese Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal and the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal (1,380 yen each). It is 20 yen above the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal (1,280 yen) and 120 yen above the standard Umatoma and Brown Sauce Hamburg Steak Set Meals (1,180 yen each), placing it among the highest-priced set meals.

Compared with the existing “Hiyajiru Vegetable Set” (730 yen, no meat), which uses the same hiyajiru, it is 570 yen higher, with the pairing of chicken nanban and hiyajiru pushing the price up.

The Standard Chicken Nanban Set Meal Starts at 780 Yen Only

The “Chicken Nanban Set Meal” lets you enjoy chicken nanban on its own, in two versions: 780 yen Only, and 980 yen as a set meal with rice and salad. The 320 yen difference from the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set (1,300 yen) is the markup for adding hiyajiru.

The Hiyajiru Series That Began on August 4 Expands in Earnest with Its Second Installment

These two items extend the way this summer’s hiyajiru series has been expanded step by step. Hiyajiru Only (390 yen) went on sale nationwide at 10 a.m. on August 4, and the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set appeared alongside it. On August 11, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set was moved from the store-limited category to the regular set meal page, and the series has gradually been putting down roots in the set meal category.

Going back further, hiyajiru was test-sold at 70 stores nationwide from May 5 to 11. During that period, on May 7, the official X account posted, “Miyazaki gourmet ‘Hiyajiru’ and ‘Chicken Nanban’! This week’s Test Sale,” presenting the two side by side. What was shown together at the Test Sale stage has now taken shape as a single product, the “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set,” about three and a half months later.

With Hiyajiru Only launching first on August 4, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set joining the set meal page on August 11, and two chicken nanban items added on August 18, the hiyajiru-centered lineup has gained considerable depth over these two weeks.
