Matsuya Discontinues 4 "Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry" Items After Just 14 Days on Sale
Four items from Matsuya’s Indian-style curry lineup, including the “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice,” ended sales on October 6, 2026. They went off the menu exactly 14 days after launching at 10:00 a.m. on September 22. At 10:00 a.m. on that same October 6, “Neo Kashmir Curry and Rice,” supervised by My Curry Shokudo, arrived in the same curry category, so the curry category swapped out its lineup.
Two weeks on sale, and Matsuya’s official X still called it a hit after launch
The “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice,” modeled on the South Indian dish Palak Paneer, launched at 10:00 a.m. on September 22. Matsuya’s official X account featured this curry several times, from the day before launch through the days after. Posts on September 24 and 27 described it as “a big hit” and “on sale and popular,” and also included information about toppings.
No post announcing the end of sales appeared before the items came off the menu on October 6. On the menu page, however, only the Chicken Curry carried a “※To be discontinued successively” notice ahead of the others, so the series was ending at different paces across its items.
Indian-style curries priced 100 yen above the standard curry
Four varieties were on offer. Prices and calories were as follows.
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice was 660 yen as Only and 780 yen as a Set Meal (with rice and salad). The Set Meal came to 694 kcal. Whereas the current Founding Beef Curry and Rice and Neo Kashmir Curry and Rice are 560 yen as Only and 680 yen as a Set Meal, this Indian-style curry was priced a flat 100 yen higher.
The most expensive in the series was the Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice at 1,170 yen (1,131 kcal).
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu, which pairs the curry with beef, was 1,050 yen (994 kcal), 100 yen more than the current standard Karegyu at 950 yen.
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice was 960 yen (928 kcal).
Matsuya’s curry category turns over in a few weeks to about a month
In Matsuya’s regular curry category, limited-time curries have come and gone in rotation. Lining up the sales periods of past limited-time curries, they run from roughly a few weeks to a little over a month.
| Limited-time curry | Sales period |
|---|---|
| Founding Beef Curry and Rice | about 42 days |
| Neo Tomato Curry and Rice | about 35 days |
| Butter Chicken Curry and Rice | about 28 days |
| Chunky Stewed Chicken Curry and Rice | about 28 days |
| Founding Beef Tongue Curry and Rice | about 4 to 20 days (varies by item) |
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice | 14 days |
This 14-day run is on the short side, but it falls within the range of past turnover. Neo Kashmir Curry and Rice, which arrived to take its place, starts at 560 yen for Only, a more affordable price range than the Indian-style curries that have ended.
Editor's Note
A regrettable 14 days for anyone who had been eyeing it. Matsuya's curry category really does turn over quickly.
