Matsuya's Official X Announces MATSUYA PASS Improvement in Development: Single Scan to Keep Discount Active Until Expiry
On July 4, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a series of updates on usability improvements for the “MATSUYA PASS” subscription service. After revealing that the pass can now also be used via the Matsuya App, the account explained, in replies to user feedback, both its development of a system to eliminate the need to scan a code every time and its plans for the physical card going forward. Acknowledging the response with comments such as “Thank you very much for the enthusiastic feedback” and “We have received a great many comments,” the account addressed user voices one by one.
App Compatibility Rolled Out First, With Plans to Eliminate Repeated Scanning for Discounts
MATSUYA PASS is a system in which customers present the card’s QR code in-store to have it scanned in order to receive a discount on eligible items. The card itself states, “Please scan the QR code with the Matsuya App or the ticket vending machine before use,” and as things currently stand, a scan is required every time the pass is used.
Matsuya’s official X account responded to a user who called the need to scan every time “way too inconvenient” with “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” and explained that it had now rolled out a spec allowing MATSUYA PASS to be used via the Matsuya App as well. While acknowledging, “We are aware that this is not yet a complete solution,” the account revealed the reasoning behind prioritizing an early rollout, stating, “We decided to go ahead and introduce it now so that everyone could start using it as soon as possible.”
On top of that, the account explained that it is developing a system aimed at ensuring that “once MATSUYA PASS is scanned a single time, the discount will keep applying until the pass expires.” It also touched on the expected timeline for this improvement, which would eliminate the need to scan every time, saying, “We can probably implement it in the next update or the one after that.”
In Response to Requests to Discontinue the Physical Card, Matsuya Plans to Keep Both Digital and Physical in Use
In the exchange, one user also requested, “If I buy it through the app, please get rid of the physical card entirely.” In response, Matsuya’s official X account struck a positive tone toward digitizing the physical card, saying, “That is also ‘planned’ for implementation!” while also replying, “Looking at MATSUYA PASS usage history, a certain number of people use it at the ticket vending machines, so we are considering keeping both the physical card and the digital version in use.” Given that a certain segment of users still relies on the ticket vending machines, the account revealed its thinking that it would keep both the digital and physical cards available for the time being rather than discontinuing the physical card immediately.
The July Edition Offers 100 Yen Off Set Meals and 70 Yen Off Beef Bowl and Curry and Rice Bowl
The post included an image of the July edition card. Eligible items are 100 yen off Set Meals and 70 yen off Beef Bowl and Curry and Rice Bowl, valid from 0:00 on July 1, 2026 to 23:59 on July 31, 2026. The card can be used at Matsuya as well as Matsunoya and My Curry Shokudo, and it includes instructions to present the card to staff when receiving the item.
In the lower left of the card is a humorous illustration of Macky, Matsuya’s official mascot, holding up a sign reading “Can’t show you this!” to cover the QR code. The design encourages caution around handling the QR code while adding a playful touch.
Daily MATSUYA PASS Posts Continue Since Entering July
The July edition of MATSUYA PASS went on sale on June 26, and since then the official X account had continued to post daily calls to purchase it along with guidance on how to use it in the app. On July 1, the account introduced the steps for scanning the QR code from the coupon tab, and on the 3rd it posted urging that “now is the time to buy.” This latest series of posts on usability improvements appears to be positioned as a response to the feedback received on these earlier guidance posts.
