Matsuya Futamatase Store and Asakusabashi-Minami Store Both Reopen Today as Matsunoya Co-located Stores

Two Matsuya locations — one in Fukuoka City and one in Chuo Ward, Tokyo — followed the identical schedule from closing for renovation to reopening, and both reopened today as stores co-located with Matsunoya.

Matsuya Futamatase Store (0702) in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Matsuya Asakusabashi-Minami Store (1950) in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, both went into temporary closure at 3:00 PM on July 23, 2026, and reopened at 10:00 AM on August 7, 2026. Both stores used the closure period to renovate their interiors, reemerging as stores co-located with the tonkatsu specialty chain “Matsunoya.” Two stores far apart in Fukuoka and Tokyo kept perfectly in step, from closing through reopening to the addition of Matsunoya. When the July 23 closure was announced, the reopening was already slated for August 7, and the reopening arrived exactly as scheduled.

Two Stores, Two Different Paths to Matsunoya

Both stores arrived at the same result — becoming a Matsunoya co-located store — but the paths that got them there were opposite.

Futamatase Store had until now been a standalone Matsuya, co-located with neither Matsunoya nor My Curry Shokudo. This renovation newly added Matsunoya, turning it into a store where customers can choose between Beef Bowl and tonkatsu under one roof.

Asakusabashi-Minami Store, on the other hand, had originally been a combo store co-located with the curry chain My Curry Shokudo. This renovation replaced that My Curry Shokudo with Matsunoya, swapping the sign from curry co-location to tonkatsu co-location. Within the Matsuya group, stores switching from curry co-location to tonkatsu co-location have been appearing in various locations since Asaka Hizaori Store (1696) led the way on May 11, 2026, and Asakusabashi-Minami Store joins that trend. Two changes of a different nature — “new co-location from none” and “switching from another brand” — reached their reopening date on the very same day.

The Spread of Matsunoya Co-located Stores by Location

Of Matsuya’s 1,208 stores nationwide, 474 are currently co-located with Matsunoya. By prefecture, Tokyo has the most with 50 stores, followed by Saitama Prefecture with 43, Osaka Prefecture with 38, Chiba Prefecture with 33, Aichi Prefecture with 26, and Kanagawa Prefecture with 24. Fukuoka Prefecture has 18, putting it among the higher-ranked group nationwide.

Tokyo, home to Asakusabashi-Minami Store, is the area with the most Matsunoya co-located stores, and within Chuo Ward it becomes the second Matsunoya co-located store after Kayabacho Store (2134). In Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, home to Futamatase Store, it becomes the only Matsunoya co-located store in the ward. The nearby Fukuoka Hakozaki Store (1916) remains co-located with My Curry Shokudo, so within Higashi Ward, tonkatsu co-location and curry co-location are neatly divided.

The Renovation Rush Continues Nationwide

The addition of Matsunoya at these two stores is not an isolated event. Since May 11, 2026 alone, at least 27 stores — including Futamatase Store and Asakusabashi-Minami Store — have undergone the same pattern of renovation: temporary closure followed by the addition of a co-located Matsunoya. Most, like Futamatase Store, are new co-locations at stores that previously had no co-located brand, while switchovers from My Curry Shokudo like Asakusabashi-Minami Store are the minority.

Of these, 26 stores have already reopened. The remaining store, Matsuya Kami-Shakujii Store (0338), went into temporary closure at 3:00 PM on August 4, 2026, with reopening planned for September 18. The push to expand the number of Matsuya locations where customers can also order tonkatsu shows no sign of stopping, even as August gets underway.
