Matsuya Nirasaki Store Switches to 24-Hour Operation Just 6 Days After Matsunoya Co-located Renewal

Matsuya Nirasaki Store (1742) has changed its business hours from “9:00 AM to 11:30 PM (last order 30 minutes before closing)” to 24-hour operation, effective July 13. The store had only just reopened on July 7 following renovations that added a co-located Matsunoya, making this a switch in operating format just six days later.

A Switch Just 6 Days After Renovation Completion

The Nirasaki store, located in Nirasaki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, announced on June 9 that it would suspend operations for renovation, then closed at 3:00 PM on June 25 to begin the process of becoming a store co-located with Matsunoya. At the time of its renewal opening at 10:00 AM on July 7, its business hours were “9:00 AM to 11:30 PM (last order 30 minutes before closing),” carrying over the limited hours from its days as a standalone store. It turns out the goal of the renovation extended beyond the renewal opening itself, all the way to the subsequent shift to 24-hour operation.

24-Hour Stores in Yamanashi Now Number Five

With this change, the number of 24-hour Matsuya locations among the seven Matsuya stores in Yamanashi Prefecture has risen from four to five. Only two stores now retain set business hours: Matsuya Kofu Arakawa Store (1709, 7:00 AM to midnight) and Matsuya Yamanashi Ryuo Store (0728, hours vary by day of the week, such as 5:00 AM to 4:00 AM the following day from Sunday through Thursday).

The nearest Matsuya to the Nirasaki store is Kofu Arakawa Store, roughly 8.9 km away in a straight line (approximate), but it remains open only from 7:00 AM to midnight and is closed overnight into the early morning. With the Nirasaki store’s switch to 24-hour operation, the area has effectively gained one more Matsuya where customers can stop by all night long.

Nationwide, about 950 of the 1,207 existing Matsuya locations (roughly 78.7%) operate 24 hours, making 24-hour operation itself a standard format for Matsuya. While the Nirasaki store’s conversion is not an unusual occurrence in itself, the fact that only two stores in Yamanashi Prefecture now retain set business hours marks a notable shift when viewed at the regional level.

The Precedent at Fujiyoshida Store Took 34 Days, Nirasaki Just 6

Within the same prefecture, Matsuya Fujiyoshida Store (1786) followed the same sequence as the Nirasaki store: suspension of operations → addition of a co-located Matsunoya → renewal opening → later switch to 24-hour operation. Fujiyoshida Store reopened on April 28, and its switch to 24-hour operation came on June 1, taking 34 days from the reopening. The Nirasaki store, by contrast, made the shift to 24-hour operation just 6 days after its July 7 reopening, completing the same process in a markedly shorter span.

The Nirasaki store’s renovation is part of a broader trend across Matsuya toward co-locating with Matsunoya, with multiple stores including the Oyama store also undergoing the same shift around July 1. Among Matsunoya co-located stores, there has also been a move in July to unify listings under 24-hour operation, dropping the separate Matsunoya hours notice from the business-hours field — as seen recently at Urawa Otakubo Store and Komae Store. However, both of those stores were already operating 24 hours; their situation differs from that of the Nirasaki store, which newly switched from limited hours to 24-hour operation.
