The base price of Matsuya’s lunch item ‘Hiyajiru Only (Choice of Side)’ was revised downward from 310 yen to 270 yen on August 5, the day after its launch. The Hiyajiru debuted on August 4 as the newest option among the lunch Choice of Side items, and its nutritional values had already been corrected the day before. The initial figures were tidied up one after another right after release.

A 40 Yen Drop, After a Nutrition Correction the Day Before

On the official site, the base price displayed at launch on August 4 was 310 yen, and on August 5 it was lowered by 40 yen to 270 yen. This is the price as a Choice of Side to go with a lunch set’s main dish, a separate pricing tier from ordering it alone as a regular side menu item.

On August 4, the nutritional values of the same Hiyajiru were also corrected. Calories went from 162 kcal to 199 kcal, fat from 7.7 g to 10.8 g, and salt from 2.7 g to 4.7 g, all revised upward. The nutrition figures and the price were thus both tidied up on consecutive days starting from launch day.

This is not the only case of an initial listed price being revised right after release. The ‘Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Bowl’, released on July 28, also had its base price corrected on launch day, from 1150 yen to 880 yen.

The Soup Slot in the Choice of Side: Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables, then Samgyetang-style, then Hiyajiru

Over the past four months or so, the soup item in the lunch Choice of Side has rotated from Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables, to Samgyetang-style Soup Only, to Hiyajiru Only. The Choice of Side price has also risen step by step, from 120 yen to 210 yen to 270 yen.

For every one of these soups, taking it as the lunch Choice of Side is 120 yen cheaper than ordering it alone as a regular side menu item. That 120 yen gap has been kept the same even as the soup changed.

The Highest Price Tier Among the Choice of Side Items

At 270 yen after the correction, Hiyajiru is the most expensive of the sides available as a Choice of Side. Among Chilled Tofu with Ginger and Green Onion at 40 yen, Fresh Vegetable Salad at 50 yen, Grated Domestic Yam Paste at 70 yen, and Potato and Fresh Vegetable Salad at 140 yen, the 270 yen Hiyajiru stands head and shoulders above the rest, taking the top price among the Choice of Side options.
