On the morning of September 23, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) quoted a post by Teimuraz Lezhava, Ambassador of Georgia to Japan, replying, “Shkmeruli Ramen, certainly. Please wait a moment. (╹◡╹)” The reply came in response to the ambassador’s call, “Could someone please make Shkmeruli Ramen for me?”, with Matsuya signaling its willingness to take on a ramen version of Shkmeruli.

The Ambassador’s Call and Matsuya’s Reply

Ambassador Lezhava’s post read, “Could someone please make Shkmeruli Ramen for me?” In response, Matsuya’s official account opened by repeating the product name “Shkmeruli Ramen,” then replied, “Certainly. Please wait a moment. (╹◡╹)”

Many of Matsuya’s official X posts carry exclamation marks, but this reply has none, reading instead like formal customer-service language. The emoticon (╹◡╹) at the end is one the account regularly uses, and it was included here as usual. At this point, only the acknowledgment “certainly” has been given — no announcement of commercialization or a release date has been made.

First Exchange with Ambassador Lezhava Since June’s Revival, About Three Months Ago

Shkmeruli is a traditional Georgian dish, and Ambassador Lezhava has long championed Matsuya’s Shkmeruli, trading posts with the official account on X over time. Most recently, in June 2026, when Shkmeruli was revived to mark Matsuya’s 60th Founding Anniversary, Matsuya’s official account quoted the ambassador’s post in a similar exchange. Today’s reply marks the first public exchange between the two since that June exchange, roughly three months ago.

A “Ramen” Matsuya Has Never Offered

The “Shkmeruli Ramen” the ambassador requested would be a new format for Matsuya. Shkmeruli has previously been served at Matsuya as a hot pot set meal, a set meal, and a Rice Set, but a noodle (ramen) version has never appeared before.

Shkmeruli itself first appeared at Matsuya on January 9, 2020, and has returned intermittently over six years — through a revival after topping the Revival Menu General Election, a Japan Food Selection Grand Prix award, and a frozen-food version for home use. Most recently, it was revived worldwide to mark Matsuya’s 60th Founding Anniversary in June, sold for a limited time of about two weeks before its listing ended on June 30. Today’s reply comes roughly three months after that sales period ended.

That said, today’s post is only a reply to the ambassador’s request, and does not announce the commercialization or release timing of “Shkmeruli Ramen.” In June’s exchange, the back-and-forth with the ambassador was followed by an official release announcement before the revival went on sale, but whether the same pattern will play out this time has not yet been indicated.

Editor's Note

Building up this much anticipation with just a "certainly" is classic Matsuya. Shkmeruli as ramen is hard to picture, but I can't wait to see what comes next.
