Matsuya Discontinues 11 Bulk-Buy Beef Bowl Bento Sets

Matsuya’s bulk-buy Beef Bowl Bento sets have disappeared from the menu one after another. On July 14, 2026, 11 of the 13 bento sets that had been offered across multiple sizes and flavors were discontinued from the menu page on Matsuya’s official site, leaving only the 2-piece Beef Bowl Bento set (860 yen) and the 3-piece set (1,260 yen). The bulk-buy lineup has been sharply narrowed down to just two sizes of the plain Beef Bowl Bento.

The 11 Discontinued Items and the 2 That Remain

The discontinued items are the 4- and 5-piece Beef Bowl Bento sets, every size (2 through 5 pieces) of the Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Beef Bowl Bento and the Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl Bento, and the Beef Bowl Trio Regular Serving Bento Set, which packs one piece each of three flavors — 11 items in total. Only the 2- and 3-piece Beef Bowl Bento sets continue.

All four sizes of the Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Beef Bowl Bento set, from the 2-piece set (1,060 yen) to the 5-piece set (2,500 yen), have been discontinued. The per-piece price ranged from 530 to 500 yen, dropping by 10 yen with each additional piece, and came in roughly 5 to 11% cheaper per piece than ordering the Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Beef Bowl (560 yen) as a single item in-store.

Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl Bento Set Also Gone in Every Size

Likewise, all four sizes of the Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl Bento set — from the 2-piece set (1,260 yen) to the 5-piece set (3,000 yen) — have disappeared. Among the discontinued sets, the 5-piece set at 3,000 yen was the most expensive, with per-piece prices ranging from 630 to 600 yen. Compared to the single in-store item, the Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl (660 yen), buying in bulk had brought the price down by roughly 5 to 9% per piece.

Beef Bowl Bento Loses Its 4- and 5-Piece Sets, and the Three-Flavor Trio Ends Too

The trio was priced 200 yen (about 12%) below the 1,680 yen it would cost to buy all three flavors individually in-store, apparently offering an easy way to sample and compare the flavors together.

The Higher-Volume Tiers That Rewarded Buying More Have Disappeared

This cutback reveals a twist in the pricing structure. Every one of the bulk-buy bento sets was built as a volume discount, with the per-piece price dropping by 10 yen for each additional piece. For the Beef Bowl Bento, that meant 430 yen per piece in the 2-piece set versus 400 yen per piece in the 5-piece set — the more you bought, the cheaper it got. Yet the sets that were discontinued are exactly those cheaper, higher-volume tiers — the 4- and 5-piece sets, plus every size of the other two flavors. What remains is only the smallest configuration of the plain Beef Bowl Bento, the 2-piece (430 yen) and 3-piece (420 yen) sets, which carry the highest per-piece prices of all. The options that rewarded buying in bulk have vanished together, leaving only the smaller packs behind.
