Matsuya Adds Discontinuation Notice to Two Eel Side Dishes, Including Store-Limited 'Una Plate'
This article has a newer version
A “※To be discontinued successively” notice was added on September 22 to the notes for Matsuya’s store-limited side dishes “Grilled Eel Plate” and “Eel and Beef Plate.” The warning comes about four weeks after the two dishes arrived on August 25 as store-limited items at 736 stores nationwide. The same notice was attached that day to the two bowls that returned alongside them as store-limited items, the “Grilled Eel Bowl” and the “Eel Combo Beef Bowl,” so all four eel items are now heading toward discontinuation together. The change appears only on the menu page of Matsuya’s official website; there has been no announcement in the news section or on the official X account.
How Long Can You Still Buy Them?
The menu page gives no specific end date, saying only “To be discontinued successively.” As “successively” suggests, the items are expected to disappear store by store as stock runs out.
For reference, the last time the same “To be discontinued successively” notice was attached, the items vanished from the menu in about a week. The store-limited run may not follow the same pace, but now that the notice is up, the remaining time may be short.
The Priciest Side Dishes on the Menu
The Grilled Eel Plate costs 760 yen and the Eel and Beef Plate 960 yen, both in the highest price range among Matsuya’s current side dishes. They sit 160 yen above the third-most-expensive item, the Tomato and Cheese Beef Plate (600 yen), and the Eel and Beef Plate is only 20 yen short of the standalone Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen). Even as side dishes, they are priced like main courses.
The Grilled Eel Plate is a serving of kabayaki-style eel on a plate, while the Eel and Beef Plate pairs it with a beef plate. At 486 kcal and 37.9 g of fat, the Eel and Beef Plate is notably hearty for a side dish.
| Menu item | Price | Energy | Protein | Fat | Carbohydrates | Salt equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grilled Eel Plate | 760 yen | 252 kcal | 18.8 g | 16.8 g | 6.2 g | 1.7 g |
| Eel and Beef Plate | 960 yen | 486 kcal | 26.5 g | 37.9 g | 9.7 g | 2.6 g |
A Second Run, Moving from Limited-Time to Store-Limited
This is the second time the eel lineup has been offered. The first run launched nationwide as a limited-time item on June 23. After the “To be discontinued successively” notice appeared in early August, the dishes vanished from the menu on August 11. Just two weeks later, on August 25, they returned under a different category, this time store-limited at 736 stores nationwide. Prices were unchanged across both runs: 760 yen for the Grilled Eel Plate and 960 yen for the Eel and Beef Plate.
The egg-simmered “Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Plate” from the earlier run is not part of the store-limited lineup that began on August 25. The eel items that came back as store-limited are four: the Grilled Eel Bowl, the Eel Combo Beef Bowl, the Grilled Eel Plate, and the Eel and Beef Plate.
Editor's Note
While you're deciding between a bowl and a plate, both could sell out. If you're in the mood for eel, go early.
