Matsuya Brings Back 'Grilled Eel Bowl' and 3 Other Items at 736 Store-Limited Locations Today at 10 AM
Matsuya will begin selling four eel dishes — Grilled Eel Bowl, Eel Combo Beef Bowl, Grilled Eel Plate, and Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate — at 10 AM on August 25 as a store-limited menu at 736 locations nationwide. These four items were sold as a nationwide menu from June 23, and after the Day of the Ox on July 26, sales ended on August 11. After a roughly two-week gap, the items are now back on the counter, this time at a narrower set of stores.
The comeback was announced in advance. On August 20, the August 25 relaunch was announced on the store-limited page of Matsuya’s official website, and on the morning of August 25, Matsuya’s official X account also confirmed the store-limited comeback starting at 10 AM that day. The four items have now actually appeared on the menu page as well.
Prices and Nutritional Information for the Four Items
The prices and energy/nutritional values of the four items are as follows (figures are for the standard size for both bowls and plates; Grilled Eel Bowl and Eel Combo Beef Bowl come with miso soup).
| Item | Price | Energy | Protein | Fat | Carbohydrates | Salt Equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grilled Eel Bowl | 980 yen | 674kcal | 26.6g | 18.7g | 95.0g | 4.8g |
| Eel Combo Beef Bowl | 1,180 yen | 908kcal | 34.3g | 39.8g | 98.5g | 5.7g |
| Grilled Eel Plate | 760 yen | 252kcal | 18.8g | 16.8g | 6.2g | 1.7g |
| Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate | 960 yen | 486kcal | 26.5g | 37.9g | 9.7g | 2.6g |
All of these prices are exactly the same as during the nationwide sale that began on June 23.
Of these, the Grilled Eel Plate (760 yen) sits at a notably high price point among Matsuya’s side dishes. The standard Simmered Beef & Onion is 370 yen, and even the next most expensive single item doesn’t reach 400 yen, yet the Grilled Eel Plate and Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate (960 yen) alone occupy the 700-yen and 900-yen ranges, with no side dishes filling the price bracket in between.
Three Size Options: Regular, Double, and Triple
The two bowl items come in size options with increased amounts of eel. Prices are as follows.
| Item | Regular | Double | Triple |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grilled Eel Bowl | 980 yen | 1,680 yen | 2,380 yen |
| Eel Combo Beef Bowl | 1,180 yen | 1,880 yen | 2,580 yen |
For both items, the price rises by a uniform 700 yen from Regular to Double and again from Double to Triple. At the Triple size, the Grilled Eel Bowl reaches 2,380 yen and the Eel Combo Beef Bowl reaches 2,580 yen, putting the latter among the higher-priced bowls in the store-limited lineup.
Combo Pricing Cheaper Than Ordering Items Separately
The Eel Combo Beef Bowl and Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate each combine eel and beef, and are priced lower than ordering the individual items separately.
- Eel Combo Beef Bowl (1,180 yen): Ordering a Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) and a Beef Bowl (460 yen) separately comes to 1,440 yen total, making the combo 260 yen cheaper
- Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate (960 yen): Ordering a Grilled Eel Plate (760 yen) and a Simmered Beef & Onion (370 yen) separately comes to 1,130 yen total, making the combo 170 yen cheaper
For anyone who wants to enjoy eel and beef together, choosing the combo item works out cheaper than ordering the two single items separately.

The Two ‘Fluffy Egg’ Items From June’s Nationwide Release Are Not Included This Time
During the nationwide sale that began on June 23, two additional items topped with fluffy, soft-set egg — Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl and Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Plate — were also sold alongside the four items covered here. In this store-limited comeback, those two egg-topped items are not part of the lineup, which consists of just the Grilled Eel Bowl, Eel Combo Beef Bowl, Grilled Eel Plate, and Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate. Prices for all four items are identical to the June release, with only the egg-topped variations dropped from the lineup.
