On August 11, 2026, eight limited-time summer items, including the Grilled Eel Bowl, Yatara Beef Bowl, and Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal, were delisted all at once from the menu list on Matsuya’s official website. All of them had carried the label “To be discontinued successively” as of August 5, and the delisting followed that notice exactly. At 10 a.m. the same day, August 11, the new items Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl and Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl went on sale. The three lines of limited-time menu items rolled out one after another since late June disappeared from the menu as new products took their place.

Prices and Sales Periods of the 8 Delisted Items

The eight items leaving the menu are three eel bowls, a Samgyetang-style Soup, two items themed on the Shinshu local dish “Yatara,” and two types of the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal with authentic Chinese sauce. Categories, prices, and sales periods are as follows.

All three lines followed the same pattern: an announcement in an official notice five days before launch, with sales starting at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday (June 23, July 7, and July 14 were all Tuesdays). The two new items that took their place were also released at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, repeating the same pattern.

Three Eel Bowls: 49 Days Spanning the Day of the Ox

The longest-running items were the three eel bowls that debuted on June 23. The standalone Grilled Eel Bowl was 980 yen, while the Eel Combo Beef Bowl, which pairs eel with beef bowl, and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl, topped with egg, were 1,180 yen each; these two sat in the upper price range even among bowls. According to the official notice, the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl is a summer staple series described as “loved for 8 years” and “on sale for the 8th time,” and this year sales began on June 23 after an announcement on June 18.

On the Day of the Ox on July 26, these eel items were the stars of the menu. The side-dish versions of the same eel campaign, the Grilled Eel Plate, the Eel and Beef Plate, and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Plate, were also delisted together on August 11, so all eel-related items, bowls and plates alike, left the menu on the same day.

Shinshu Local Dish “Yatara”: Ends After 35 Days Since Its Debut

The Yatara Beef Bowl (650 yen) and Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal (1,180 yen), added on July 7, carried the name of “Yatara,” a local dish of the Ina Valley in Shinshu, which the official notice introduced with the words “making its Matsuya debut.” They adapted the local way of eating, mixing finely chopped summer vegetables and the like. A newcomer to Matsuya’s lineup, it was sold for 35 days, a middling length among the three lines.

At 650 yen, the Yatara Beef Bowl sat somewhat above the middle among beef bowls: higher than the Bowl of Mixed Simmered Beef and Kimchi and the Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce (560 yen each), and just short of the Beef Bowl topped with Cheese (660 yen). The Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal was in the same 1,180 yen price range as the Tomato Hamburg Steak Meal and others. The side-dish item Yatara Only was also delisted on the same day, August 11.

Annual Favorite Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal: 2 Types, 28 Days

The last of the eight to arrive, on July 14, were the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal with Kimchi and the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal with Soft-boiled Egg (880 yen each). The official notice described this annual favorite as “back again this year for a limited time,” and touted its revamped authentic Chinese sauce. Two choices of side dish were offered, kimchi and soft-boiled egg, and at 28 days it had the shortest listing of the three lines.

At 880 yen, it was 30 yen higher than the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal (850 yen) and 10 yen lower than the Set Meal of Grilled Beef and the Set Meal of Grilled Boneless Short Rib (890 yen each), roughly mid-range for the set meal category. Both types were priced identically.

Samgyetang-style Soup Only Also Gone; Side Dish Shifts to Hiyajiru

The Samgyetang-style Soup Only (330 yen), which debuted on June 23 alongside the three eel items, was also delisted on August 11. Among side dishes overall, it was in the upper price range: higher than the Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Only (240 yen) and approaching the Beef Plate (370 yen) and Hiyajiru Only (390 yen). Note that the Samgyetang-style Soup offered as a choice of side for lunch sets had already disappeared a little earlier, on August 4. In the same side-dish slot, a standalone Hiyajiru appeared on August 4, and the official X account also posted at the end of July that the baton was being passed from the Samgyetang-style Soup to Hiyajiru.
