Six items in Matsuya’s “Neo Tomato” curry series, which had held the monthly rotating regular curry slot, were found to have been removed from the menu on Matsuya’s official website as of July 14, 2026. Having gone on sale for 35 days since its June 9 debut, the series was notable for being priced a uniform 100 yen lower than the corresponding items in the regular “Founding Beef Curry and Rice” lineup with the same combination.

The six discontinued items were Neo Tomato Curry and Rice, Neo Tomato Cheese Curry and Rice, Neo Tomato Hamburg Steak Curry and Rice, Neo Tomato Karegyu, Neo Tomato Chunky Chicken Curry and Rice, and Neo Tomato Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice. Of these, Neo Tomato Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice was treated as a store-limited item, while the remaining five were offered at all locations.

A Lineup Priced a Uniform 100 Yen Below the Equivalent Founding Beef Curry and Rice

Comparing prices against the regular “Founding Beef Curry and Rice” series with the same composition shows that every item in the Neo Tomato series was positioned 100 yen cheaper.

Menu Price Equivalent Founding Beef Curry and Rice Difference
Neo Tomato Curry and Rice 680 yen (560 yen for Curry and Rice Only) 780 yen (660 yen for Curry and Rice Only) 100 yen less
Neo Tomato Cheese Curry and Rice 880 yen 980 yen 100 yen less
Neo Tomato Hamburg Steak Curry and Rice 890 yen 990 yen 100 yen less
Neo Tomato Karegyu 950 yen 1,050 yen 100 yen less
Neo Tomato Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice (Store-limited) 1,070 yen 1,170 yen 100 yen less
Neo Tomato Chunky Chicken Curry and Rice 1,050 yen (930 yen for Curry and Rice Only)

For the plain Neo Tomato Curry and Rice, which comes in a Curry and Rice Only size, the gap held at a consistent 100 yen even when comparing the Only prices directly — 560 yen versus 660 yen. This positioned the series as a limited-time lineup offering the same ingredient composition at a 100 yen discount. Note that the current curry lineup has no comparable chicken curry in the same line as Neo Tomato Chunky Chicken Curry and Rice, making it an item with no equivalent to compare prices against.

Replacing the Previous Butter Curry Lineup, On Sale for 35 Days

The Neo Tomato series debuted on June 9, taking over the regular curry slot with no gap as it replaced Cream Butter Curry and Rice and Butter Chicken Curry and Rice, both of which were discontinued the same day. Tracing back through the monthly rotating regular curry slot’s recent runs, Chunky Stewed Chicken Curry and Rice ran for 28 days, followed by Cream Butter and Butter Chicken Curry and Rice for another 28 days, rotating on a roughly four-week cycle. This time, the Neo Tomato series stayed on shelves for 35 days — a week longer than the previous two rotations.

The flagship Neo Tomato Chunky Chicken Curry and Rice was born as a variant of Chunky Stewed Chicken Curry and Rice — discontinued on May 12 — with its sauce swapped for a summer-oriented tomato base. It was part of an ongoing pattern in which Matsuya’s curry lineup rotates every few weeks by reworking its sauce.

As of June 30, a “Sales to End Successively” Notice Was Already Displayed

Ahead of the discontinuation, Matsuya’s official website had already displayed a “*Sales to end successively” notice on all six items as of June 30 — about two weeks before the actual removal — meaning the withdrawal from stores had been flagged in advance.

Editor's Note

Neo Tomato, which cost 100 yen less than Founding Beef Curry and Rice for the same combination, is probably something plenty of fans wished they'd grabbed one more time before summer's end.
