Matsuya Launches Double-Meat "Boneless Short Rib & Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving" and One Other Item Today

Matsuya will hold its “MEGA Serving Fair” at Matsuya stores nationwide, except some locations, from 10:00 on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to 10:00 on Tuesday, October 20. For a limited time, it will sell two items with double the meat of a Large Serving and an Extra-large Serving of rice: the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving” (1,200 yen) and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving” (1,140 yen). The blowout-sized servings first appeared for one day only on August 29, Meat Day, and were popular. Matsuya says it is bringing them back by expanding them into a one-week fair.

Two MEGA Serving Bowls in the Lineup

The two items on sale are the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving,” which pairs a rich sauce with kimchi, and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving,” which uses a lighter green onion and salt sauce. In the promotional image, the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving is piled with finely chopped nori, and the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving with plenty of scallions. Both share the same selling points: “double the meat of a Large Serving” and an “Extra-large Serving of rice.” Matsuya describes them as “a deeply satisfying bowl that keeps the familiar flavor and puts the meat front and center.”

Both are available for takeout, but the announcement says miso soup is charged separately with takeout orders. Shareholder benefit vouchers can be used on both items.

Both Items Cost +510 Yen Over Regular Serving, Exceeding the Usual Bowl Ceiling

The markup over the Regular Serving is identical for the two MEGA Serving items. The Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl goes from 690 yen in Regular Serving to 1,200 yen in MEGA Serving, and the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl from 630 yen to 1,140 yen. In both cases the difference is exactly 510 yen. The surcharge for double the meat of a Large Serving and an Extra-large Serving of rice is the same for both.

Item Regular Serving MEGA Serving Difference
Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl 690 yen 1,200 yen +510 yen
Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl 630 yen 1,140 yen +510 yen

At 1,200 yen, the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving is 110 yen above the Extra-large Serving of the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl (1,090 yen), the priciest bowl on the regular menu. Even counting beef bowls and curries, the highest-priced regular single item today is 1,090 yen, shared by the Extra-large Serving of the Beef Bowl topped with Tomato and Cheese and the Extra-large Serving of the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl, and that is the ceiling for regular single items among bowls, beef bowls and curries. The MEGA Serving’s 1,200 yen sets a price above that level.

At 1,140 yen, the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving is 290 yen above the Large Serving (850 yen), the largest regular size of the same item. The Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl has no Extra-large Serving, so the Large Serving is the top of the regular lineup.

From a One-Day Sale on August 29, Meat Day, to a One-Week Fair

The current MEGA Serving is based on the blowout-sized servings sold for one day only on August 29, Meat Day. At that time they were called the “Large Serving Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” and the “Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl,” priced at 1,200 yen and 1,140 yen, the same as now. The announcement also looks back, saying that the one-day event held on August 29 this year “was very well received, and we received many comments of regret that it was over, such as ‘One day wasn’t enough!’ and ‘I missed Meat Day…’” It says the sale period is being extended to one week for the return.

Matsuya’s official X account had already hinted at “October” back on August 29. A post that day said conditionally, “If Meat Day goes well, we’ll promote it to a chainwide promotion around October,” and a post on the night of October 7 previewed the return: “It’s a one-week run from 10/13, so if you missed out on 8/29 Meat Day, we await your challenge.” The October 8 announcement officially confirms this preview made on X. At the time of the X preview, it was unclear whether the participating stores were nationwide or limited, but the announcement now states clearly: “Matsuya stores nationwide, except some locations.”

The name has changed from the “Large Serving” (W) of the August version to “MEGA Serving.” The August announcement restricted orders to “orders placed through the Matsuya Foods official app (Matsuben Net and Matsuya Mobile Order) only” and said “not available at ticket vending machines or tablets,” but this announcement contains no such ordering restriction, and the participating stores are described only as “Matsuya stores nationwide, except some locations.” It is held as a standalone fair for one week from October 13 to 20, on a separate schedule from the monthly Meat Day campaign held on the 29th.

Editor's Note

If you missed out on Meat Day, you now get a whole week. It's nice to have time to agonize over whether you're team Kimchi Kalbi or team green onion and salt.
