Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a teaser on the night of July 6 for the Yatara Beef Bowl, launching the following day, July 7. The post declared, “This starts tomorrow,” and added, “We’re somehow yatara excited about this. Yatara,” playing on the product name Yatara to express its enthusiasm. It was accompanied by a close-up photo of the beef bowl piled high with chopped vegetables.

The Photo: An Extreme Close-Up of Beef Bowl Topped with Yatara

The accompanying image is an extreme close-up of the dish. Piled generously on top of the beef in the beef bowl is a mixture of diced cucumber, finely chopped carrot, shredded kelp, and white sesame seeds, glistening with moisture. Yatara, a local dish from Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture), is a condiment-like preparation of finely chopped summer vegetables and pickles mixed together, prized for its refreshing taste. Paired with the beef bowl, it appears designed to be easy to eat even in the hot season.

Yatara Beef Bowl Launches July 7 at 10 AM, Starting at 650 Yen

The Yatara Beef Bowl goes on sale from 10:00 AM on July 7. Prices start at 650 yen for the Yatara Beef Bowl and 830 yen for the Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal, marking the first nationwide rollout of a menu item featuring yatara, the local dish from Shinshu. Matsuya’s official X account had already announced the launch as of July 3, and this latest post built anticipation the night before by playing on the product name.

In May, a Store-Limited Yatarazuke Beef Bowl Also Appeared

A menu item using yatara had already appeared in May as the store-limited Yatarazuke Beef Bowl, offered at select locations at the time. This time, the concept expands to a nationwide rollout. Attention now turns to whether the idea of pairing the refreshing crunch of chopped vegetables with the beef bowl will take hold as a summer staple.

Editor's Note

The official account's non-stop "yatara" puns are, well, yatara excessive. Topped with chopped vegetables, this beef bowl looks refreshingly light — count us curious.
