The Specific Opening Date and Time Have Disappeared from the Store Listing
It has come to light that the opening of “Matsuya Okinawa Hiyane Store (with Matsunoya co-located)” (No. 2311), planned for Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture, has been pushed back from the originally announced September 18 to “early October.” The specific opening date and time have disappeared from the store listing on Matsuya’s official website, replaced with a broader, less specific timeframe.
As of August 27, the Okinawa Hiyane Store listing carried the note “*Opens 10:00 a.m. on September 18” at the end of its store name. As of September 8, that note has been rewritten to “*Opens early October.” The specific date and time have been dropped in favor of the broader phrase “early,” and the exact post-postponement opening date has not yet been posted on the official website.
The change comes about two weeks after the initial announcement, with fewer than 10 days remaining before the originally planned September 18 opening. The opening listing itself remains posted, so the plan to open the store has not been withdrawn.
How This Differs from Past Opening Date Changes
There have been past cases of new store opening dates being pushed back. A store in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture moved from April 21 to April 25; a store in Sapporo City, Hokkaido moved from 10:00 a.m. on June 2 to 9:00 a.m. on June 3; and a store in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture moved from July 10 to July 14. In each of these past changes, the shift was on the order of just a few days, and a new specific opening date was given at the same time as the change.
The case of the Okinawa Hiyane Store, where the specific date and time designation itself has disappeared and been replaced with the broader phrase “early [month],” is a rare one. What sets it apart from past postponements is that the store listing has been updated to “early October” first, while the new opening date has not yet been specifically determined.
The Second Store in Okinawa City, With Matsunoya Co-located
The Okinawa Hiyane Store is listed as a location co-located with Matsunoya, the tonkatsu and set-meal chain. Ten Matsuya stores are currently operating in Okinawa Prefecture: Uruma Ishikawa Store, Chatan Mihama Store, Uruma Akamichi Store, Tomigusuku Store, Naha Shintoshin Store, Okinawa Chibana Store, Haebaru Store, Naha Kojima Store, Naha Oroku Store, and Ginowan Store. Once open, Okinawa Hiyane Store will become the 11th store in the prefecture. Among the existing stores in the prefecture, all but Naha Shintoshin Store, which is co-located with My Curry Shokudo, are co-located with Matsunoya, and Okinawa Hiyane Store follows this region’s predominant co-location pattern.
Within Okinawa City, it will be the second store, following the existing Okinawa Chibana Store. It marks a new opening in Okinawa Prefecture following Ginowan Store, which opened in May as the prefecture’s 10th store, and the confirmation of the opening date is now awaited.
Editor's Note
