Matsuya Opens Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store, Its 3rd in Kagoshima City, Today at 10 AM

StoreNew StoreAdded

On September 17, Matsuya opened a new store, “Matsuya Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store (2614),” at the Kagoshima Center Building, 12-1 Yamanoguchicho, Kagoshima City. The official store locator lists the opening as 10 a.m. that day. The “Opening September 17 at 10 AM” notice that had previously accompanied the store’s name was removed as of today, and the scheduled opening date/time field switched to blank. The opening proceeded exactly as announced.

This store was one of three that Matsuya listed as scheduled new openings on September 3 — Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store, Matsusaka Kamatacho Store, and Shimonoseki Chofu Store. Of the three, Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store had the earliest announced opening date, September 17. The remaining two, Matsusaka Kamatacho Store and Shimonoseki Chofu Store, are scheduled to open on October 1.

Third Store in Kagoshima City, Opening in the Tenmonkan Entertainment District

The store’s name refers to Tenmonkan, the largest entertainment district in southern Kyushu, spread across central Kagoshima City. With the opening of Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store, Matsuya now operates three stores in Kagoshima City, alongside the existing Kagoshima Usuki Store and Kagoshima Shinei Store.

Looking at the locations of the two existing stores from the store locator, the closest is Kagoshima Shinei Store, about 4.6 kilometers away in a straight line, followed by Kagoshima Usuki Store at about 5.6 kilometers (both are straight-line distances between points, not travel distances). While the two existing stores were clustered toward the south of the city, a new location has now been added in the central Tenmonkan district, spreading the distribution of Matsuya stores across the city from north to south.

Matsuya in Kagoshima Prefecture Now at 7 Stores, All with Co-located Matsunoya

With this opening, the number of Matsuya stores in Kagoshima Prefecture increased from six to seven. By prefecture, Kagoshima’s seven stores place it among the smaller groups nationwide, alongside Iwate, Ishikawa, Fukushima, Wakayama, and Yamanashi. Given that Tokyo has the most stores at 338, southern Kyushu can still be considered an area with significant room for further store openings.

Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store opened as a combo store with a co-located Matsunoya, the tonkatsu-focused format. All seven Matsuya stores in Kagoshima Prefecture now have a co-located Matsunoya, meaning Matsuya and Matsunoya are always deployed together there. While only about 40% of Matsuya stores nationwide have a co-located Matsunoya, in Kagoshima Prefecture, offering both tonkatsu and Beef Bowl at a single location has become the standard.

New Store Openings Continue Nationwide

Matsuya’s new store openings continue across the country. Since the start of September alone, openings have followed one after another at intervals of a few days to about a week, including TOFROM Yaesu Store in Chuo Ward, Tokyo (September 10) and Seki Store in Seki City, Gifu (September 4). Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store is the latest in this string of openings, with its announced opening date carried through to the actual opening day exactly as planned.

The two stores announced at the same time, Matsusaka Kamatacho Store (Mie) and Shimonoseki Chofu Store (Yamaguchi), are scheduled to open on October 1, with new store openings expected to continue into the next month.

Editor's Note

Tenmonkan just got a new nightcap option — not a drink, but a Beef Bowl. And having Matsunoya right alongside it is the Kagoshima way.
