Matsuya to Launch "Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set" for Classic Menu Items, Up to 70 Yen Off, on September 15
Matsuya Foods will begin selling the “Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set for Classic Menu Items” — which lets customers add a hearty, ingredient-packed miso soup to a classic menu item — at Matsuya locations nationwide (excluding some stores) from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Choosing an eligible Beef Bowl, bowl, or set meal knocks a set amount off the regular price, making the single-item 240-yen miso soup effectively cheaper. The campaign was announced in an official notice dated September 10.
Discounts vary by category — the more expensive the menu item, the cheaper the miso soup gets
Rather than applying a flat discount to the base price, this set uses a fixed discount tied to the category of the classic menu item it’s paired with. Beef Bowl items get 30 yen off, bowls get 50 yen off, and set meals get 70 yen off.
Compared to ordering the 240-yen miso soup on its own, the effective cost of the soup drops by exactly the discount amount. That works out to an effective 210 yen for a Beef Bowl set, 190 yen for a bowl set, and 170 yen for a set meal set. The more expensive the base item — set meals being the priciest — the bigger the discount, creating an inverted structure where adding the soup actually gets cheaper as you trade up.
| Category | Discount | Effective Add-on Price for Soup |
|---|---|---|
| Beef Bowl set | 30 yen off | approx. 210 yen |
| Bowl set | 50 yen off | approx. 190 yen |
| Set meal set | 70 yen off | approx. 170 yen |
For example, a Regular Serving Beef Bowl normally costs 460 yen, but as a set it’s 30 yen off, bringing the otherwise 240-yen miso soup down to an effective 210 yen. For the Set Meal of Grilled Pork Loin (normally 790 yen), the 70-yen discount brings the soup down to an effective 170 yen. All prices include tax, and shareholder benefit vouchers can be used on every eligible menu item.

Second time in half a year, with a Samgyetang-style soup in between — a seasonal rotation
A set of the same name and structure — the Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set for Classic Menu Items — was previously sold on March 3, 2026. This marks its second run in about half a year, and the discount amounts are identical to last time: 30 yen off Beef Bowls, 50 yen off bowls, and 70 yen off set meals. Even the opening line of the announcement, “Add one to your favorite classic menu item!”, is unchanged.
This three-tier discount structure isn’t unique to the miso soup. In between, on June 23, 2026, the same combination of “30 yen off Beef Bowls, 50 yen off bowls, 70 yen off set meals” was used for the Samgyetang-style Soup Set for Classic Menu Items, which swaps in a different soup. Miso soup in March, Samgyetang-style soup in June, and now miso soup again in September — the same discount template keeps recurring with the soup rotated each time.
Meanwhile, the lineup of eligible menu items has changed considerably over the half year. The March version covered 27 items in total — seven Beef Bowl items, six bowls, and 14 set meals — while this time it’s narrowed to 17. Items that appeared in the March version but have since disappeared include four hamburg steak set meals (Hamburg Steak with Demi-glace Sauce and Omelet Set Meal, Hamburg Steak with Demi-glace Sauce Set Meal, Demi-glace Egg Hamburg Steak Set Meal), Beef Bowl items such as Green Onion Mayo Spicy Beef Bowl, Mayo Kimchi Beef Bowl, and New Grilled Beef Bowl, as well as Original Salt-based Green Onion Thick Pork Boneless Short Rib Bowl and Seasoned Ground Chicken & Egg Bowl — all discontinued between April and August. In their place, this round newly features Umatoma Cheese Beef Bowl, Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl, Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl, Set Meal of Grilled Pork Loin, Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal, and Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal. The shrinking item count appears to reflect turnover in the eligible lineup itself over the past half year, rather than a deliberate narrowing.
Notably, Matsuya’s miso soup promotions have historically clustered in the colder months, from around October through March. Rolling this out in mid-September, while still warm, gets a head start on the autumn-and-winter staple ahead of the season.
At 240 yen, the miso soup sits at the top of Matsuya’s soup-side lineup
The miso soup included in this set costs 240 yen on its own. Among Matsuya’s soup-based sides, that’s about 2.7 times the price of a regular Miso Soup (90 yen) and about 1.7 times the price of a Miso Soup with Tofu (140 yen) — making it the priciest option in the lineup. It’s a hearty bowl packed with carrot, lotus root, tofu, pork, and scallion, and the announcement repeatedly describes it as having “main-dish-level presence.”
This miso soup once appeared as one of the Choice of Side options for Lunch Sets. As the only soup-based option among the Lunch Set’s Choice of Side lineup, the standalone “miso soup only” option (originally 140 yen, 120 yen at the end) was delisted on June 23, 2026. Since then, the miso soup has instead been brought back through set promotions spanning the classic menu, as seen here.
Editor's Note
A curious bit of math: the pricier the set meal you choose, the cheaper the miso soup gets. Get a head start on the cold season with a warm bowl before winter arrives.
