Matsuya Foods will launch the “Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set for Classic Menu Items,” which lets customers add a hearty Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables to their favorite classic menu items, at Matsuya restaurants nationwide (excluding some locations) from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Choosing an eligible beef bowl, bowl or set meal takes a fixed amount off the regular price, so the 240-yen standalone Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables comes at an effective discount. The offer was announced in an official notice dated September 10.

Discounts Vary by Category, and the Higher-Priced the Menu Item, the Cheaper the Soup Effectively Gets

This set does not apply a flat discount to the base price. Instead, a fixed discount is set for each category of classic menu item it is paired with: 30 yen off for beef bowl items, 50 yen off for bowls and 70 yen off for set meals.

Compared with adding the 240-yen standalone Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables afterward, the effective cost of the soup drops by the amount of the discount. With a beef bowl set, the soup effectively costs 210 yen; with a bowl set, 190 yen; and with a set meal, 170 yen. The higher-priced the menu item, the larger the discount, so the structure is inverted: choosing a set meal makes adding the soup cheaper.

For example, a Regular Serving Beef Bowl normally costs 460 yen, but as a set it gets 30 yen off, so the Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables, which costs 240 yen on its own, effectively comes to 210 yen. With the Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal (normally 790 yen), the discount is 70 yen, and the soup drops to an effective 170 yen. All prices include tax, and shareholder benefit vouchers can be used on all eligible menu items.

Second Time in Half a Year, With a Samgyetang-style Soup Interlude in a Seasonal Rotation

The identically named and identically structured “Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set for Classic Menu Items” was also released once before, on March 3, 2026. This is its second run, about six months later. The discount amounts are exactly the same as last time (30 yen off beef bowls, 50 yen off bowls, 70 yen off set meals), and the opening line of the announcement, “Add one more to your favorite classic menu item!”, is also identical.

This three-tier discount structure is not unique to the miso soup. In between, on June 23, 2026, the “Samgyetang-style Soup Set for Classic Menu Items,” with a different soup, was offered using the same combination of 30 yen off beef bowls, 50 yen off bowls and 70 yen off set meals. The same discount template has been repeated while the soup changes: miso soup in March, Samgyetang-style soup in June and miso soup again in September.

Meanwhile, the lineup of eligible menu items has changed considerably over the six months. The March edition covered 27 items (7 beef bowl items, 6 bowls and 14 set meals), whereas this time it has been narrowed to 17. Items in the March edition that have since disappeared include four Hamburg Steak items such as the Hamburg Steak with Demi-glace Sauce and Omelet Set Meal, the Hamburg Steak with Demi-glace Sauce Set Meal and the Demi-glace Egg Hamburg Steak Set Meal; beef bowl items such as the Green Onion Mayo Spicy Beef Bowl, the Bowl of Mixed Simmered Beef and Kimchi w/ Mayo and the New Grilled Beef Bowl; and the Original Salt-based Green Onion Thick Pork Boneless Short Rib Bowl and the Seasoned Ground Chicken & Egg Bowl. All of them were discontinued between April and August. In their place, this time the Beef Bowl topped with Tomato and Cheese, Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl, Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl, Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal, Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal and Set Meal of Hamburg Steak in Brown Sauce make their first appearance, so the drop in the number of items appears to reflect the eligible menu itself being replaced over the past six months rather than a simple narrowing down.

Incidentally, Matsuya’s promotions featuring Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables have typically been concentrated in the colder months of October through March. Launching in mid-September is somewhat early, anticipating an autumn and winter staple while the summer heat lingers.

At 240 Yen Standalone, Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Is in the Highest Price Tier of Matsuya’s Soup Sides

The Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables included in this set costs 240 yen on its own. Among Matsuya’s soup sides, that is about 2.7 times the Miso Soup (90 yen) and about 1.7 times the Miso Soup with Tofu (140 yen), placing it in the highest price tier. It is a hearty bowl packed with carrots, lotus root, tofu, pork and scallions, and the announcement repeatedly pushes it as having “star-player presence.”

This soup was once also on the lunch Choice of Side lineup. The Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Only, the only soup among the lunch Choice of Side options (initially 140 yen, finally 120 yen), was delisted on June 23, 2026, and since then the soup has come to the fore as a cross-menu set offer for classic menu items, as in this case.
