On September 15, Matsuya rotated the drinks on its regular menu. It added two tea drinks, ‘Relax Jasmine Tea’ (140 yen) and ‘Oi Ocha Koicha Premium Strong’ (160 yen), while the unsweetened ‘Blended Tea’ (120 yen), which had been on the menu until now, was discontinued. Both new items are priced with tax included, and both have zero kilocalories. The unsweetened tea lineup switches from the unbranded ‘Blended Tea’ to Ito En’s ‘Oi Ocha’.

The other new item, ‘Oi Ocha Koicha Premium Strong,’ costs 160 yen. It is at the higher end of the price range among the two additions.

On September 14, the day before this drink was added, at 6:38 p.m., the official Matsuya X account quoted a post from Ito En’s official character ‘Oi Ocha-kun’ and wrote, “It’s the meeting of Oi Ocha-kun and Macky (╹◡╹).” On September 15, a product from the same ‘Oi Ocha’ brand was added to the menu, so the actual drink appeared the day after the post about the characters’ meeting. The September 14 post itself reported the meeting and did not announce this menu addition.

Price Positioning Among Single Drinks

After this rotation, the drinks that can be ordered on their own are, in order of price:

Menu item Price
Cola 100 yen
Relax Jasmine Tea 140 yen
Oi Ocha Koicha Premium Strong 160 yen
Canned Asahi Super Dry Draft Beer 290 yen
Bottled Beer 490 yen

The two new tea drinks take the second and third spots in price, after the cheapest, Cola (100 yen). Jasmine Tea costs 40 yen more than Cola, and Koicha Premium Strong is another 20 yen above that. The discontinued Blended Tea was 120 yen, the second-cheapest drink after Cola, and the 140-yen Jasmine Tea now takes over that price tier. The two are far from the alcoholic drinks, Canned Asahi Super Dry Draft Beer (290 yen) and Bottled Beer (490 yen), so the additions sit within the soft drink price range. No set discounts or app-exclusive discounts were found for either product, and both are sold as single items only.

Editor's Note

Blended Tea out, Oi Ocha in. After Oi Ocha-kun met Macky the day before, the real thing was on the menu the next day.
