Matsuya Rokujizo: Business Hours Changed from "8:00 AM–1:00 AM" to 24-Hour Operation

StoreUpdated

Matsuya’s store information shows that business hour changes were reflected on July 16 for two stores: Matsuya Rokujizo (0881) in Kyoto City and Matsuya Kariya-Hidaka (0519) in Aichi Prefecture. Rokujizo switched from operating during limited hours to 24-hour operation, while Kariya-Hidaka extended its suspension of late-night operations. Both stores are the only Matsuya location in their respective municipality.

Rokujizo: From Limited Hours to 24-Hour Operation

Matsuya Rokujizo had previously set its business hours as “8:00 AM to 1:00 AM (last order 30 minutes before closing),” but as of July 16, this has been changed to “24-hour operation.” The store has effectively switched from operating during limited hours — opening time through 1:00 AM — to operating around the clock.

Rokujizo is the only Matsuya store in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. The nearest Matsuya is Matsuya Uji-Ogura (2227) in Uji City, about 4.15 km away in a straight line, followed by Toji (1837) in Minami Ward at about 6.18 km. This makes Rokujizo the sole location in Fushimi Ward where customers can use Matsuya from late night through early morning.

Among Matsuya’s roughly 1,200 existing stores, more than 1,000 operate 24 hours, making 24-hour operation the standard format. With this change, 14 of the 16 Matsuya stores in Kyoto Prefecture now operate 24 hours.

Kariya-Hidaka: Late-Night Suspension Extended Through July 20

At Matsuya Kariya-Hidaka, the suspension period for late-night operations has been extended. The July schedule, originally announced as “suspended from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM from July 9 to 15,” has been updated with the end date pushed back to “July 9 to 20.” The start date of July 9 remains unchanged, with only the end date extended by five days.

This store has intermittently announced late-night suspensions before, and this update falls in line with that pattern. The suspension covers the hours from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM, with no changes to operating hours outside that window. It’s worth noting that this is not a closure, but a suspension limited to specific hours.

Kariya-Hidaka is the only Matsuya store in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture, with the nearest being Matsuya Obu (2188) in Obu City, about 4.27 km away in a straight line. Of the 53 Matsuya stores in Aichi Prefecture, 42 operate 24 hours. When this sole store in Kariya City suspends operations during late-night hours, the nearest available Matsuya ends up several kilometers away.

The Only Matsuya in Each Town

The two stores changed this time moved in opposite directions — one expanding to 24-hour operation, the other extending a late-night suspension — but both share the trait of being the only Matsuya in their municipality. Rokujizo is the sole store in Fushimi Ward, and Kariya-Hidaka is the sole store in Kariya City, with the nearest other location more than 4 km away in each case. For a town’s only Matsuya, a change in business hours directly determines the hours during which residents can use Matsuya at all in that area. For customers who stop by late at night or early in the morning, this seems like a change that can’t be ignored.

Editor's Note

When a town has only one Matsuya, even a small shift in business hours can completely change the nighttime options available there.
