Matsuya Echizen Sempuku Store Returns to 24-Hour Operation for the Third Time in a Few Months
This article has a newer version
It was learned on August 12 that the listed operating hours at Matsuya’s Echizen Sempuku Store (1958) and Kumamoto Shinshigai Store (1362) have changed to “24-hour operation.” Both stores also house a Matsunoya, but the nature of the change differs between them. Echizen Sempuku Store has effectively returned to 24-hour operation from its previous “5 AM to 2 AM” schedule — the third such switch this year. At Kumamoto Shinshigai Store, the separate note specifying Matsunoya’s hours has been removed, unifying the store-wide listing as “24-hour operation”; Matsuya’s own hours at that location were already 24-hour operation both before and after the change.
Echizen Sempuku Store: Back to 24-Hour Operation After Months of Swinging Back and Forth
Echizen Sempuku Store’s listed hours changed from “5 AM to 2 AM, last order 30 minutes before close” to “24-hour operation.” Over the past few months, the store’s hours have swung back and forth between 24-hour operation and limited hours.
| Date | Operating Hours |
|---|---|
| May 1 | Switched to 24-hour operation |
| June 13 | Shortened to “5 AM to 2 AM” |
| August 12 | Returned to 24-hour operation |
The store switched to 24-hour operation on May 1, was shortened to “5 AM to 2 AM, last order 30 minutes before close” on June 13, and has now returned to 24-hour operation roughly two months later. This marks the third change to the store’s hours in the past few months.
During this period, the store also repeatedly posted notices of temporary suspensions during late-night hours (10 PM to 9 AM) on specific dates. These notices were concentrated in two stretches — April and June through July — with the schedule updated each time the listed dates were used up; in every case, the suspension applied only to that late-night window.
With this change, Fukui Wakasugi Store (1973) is now the only one of Fukui Prefecture’s five Matsuya locations that is not open 24 hours.
Kumamoto Shinshigai Store: Matsunoya Note Removed, Listing Unified
Kumamoto Shinshigai Store’s listed hours changed from “24-hour operation. *Matsunoya is open 5 AM to 3 AM, last order 30 minutes before close” to “24-hour operation.” The Matsuya listing itself read “24-hour operation” both before and after the change; what disappeared this time was the separate note giving the hours for the co-located Matsunoya. The store-wide listing has now been unified as “24-hour operation.”
This brings all of Kumamoto Prefecture’s Matsuya locations into alignment, with every one now listed as 24-hour operation:
- Kumamoto Shinshigai Store
- Kumamoto Nagamine-Minami Store
- Kumamoto Sakuragi Store
- Kumamoto Hikarinomori Store
All four stores also house a Matsunoya, and all four are now listed as “24-hour operation.”
Separately, the store had suspended operations from 3 PM on June 25 to 3 PM on June 30 before reopening — an event unrelated to this latest change in operating hours.
Roughly 80% of Matsuya Locations Nationwide Are Open 24 Hours
According to the Matsuya official website, roughly 80% of Matsuya locations nationwide are currently open 24 hours. By prefecture, Gifu is the only one with no 24-hour locations, while several prefectures — including Kumamoto — have every store operating around the clock. This update to two stores shows that the operating-hour setup, which varies by store and by region, continues to shift.

Another Fukui Matsuya now serving Beef Bowl through the night. Echizen Sempuku Store's hours keep swinging back and forth — maybe they'll settle down soon.
