Matsuya's Twice-cooked Pork Nearing Discontinuation
On August 2, Matsuya announced on its official X account that sales of the limited-time menu item Twice-cooked Pork are coming to an end soon. The post read, “Surely there’s no one out there who still hasn’t tried it…?”, encouraging fans to grab one before it’s gone. At the same time, it made no mention of a specific end date, leaving how much longer the item will be available unclear.
Only “Ending Soon”—No End Date Given
The official X post contains just a single line: “Twice-cooked Pork is ending soon.” It gives no date for when sales will stop. Matsuya’s official website menu page likewise lists no end date for Twice-cooked Pork, meaning that as of August 2, there is no official indication anywhere of exactly how much longer it will be sold. Twice-cooked Pork launched nationwide as a limited-time item on July 14 at 10:00 a.m., putting the announcement at the 19th day since its release.
Kimchi or Soft-boiled Egg: Two Ways to Enjoy It via a Choice of Side Dish
The post also asked, “For those who’ve already had it—have you tried both the Kimchi set and the Soft-boiled Egg set?”, highlighting two distinct ways to enjoy the dish. Twice-cooked Pork comes with a choice of side dish, either Kimchi or Soft-boiled Egg, and is offered in three price options: Regular for 880 yen, Double for 1,370 yen, and Only for 680 yen.
The image in the post shows Twice-cooked Pork—cabbage, green bell pepper, and carrot stir-fried with thick-cut pork in a glossy sweet soy sauce—topped with white sesame seeds, alongside a side dish of red kimchi. Matsuya highlights the dish’s generous vegetable content, centered on cabbage, noting it provides “about half of the vegetables needed in a day.”
An End-of-Sale Notice on Day 19, as Summer Menu Items Turn Over
Twice-cooked Pork is a summer staple among Matsuya’s limited-time offerings, with past announcements showing it has returned nearly every summer since 2018. This year, too, it went on sale nationwide starting July 14 under the banner “Back again this year for a limited time.”
Past limited-time set meals have typically been rotated out anywhere from one to two weeks up to a bit over a month after launch, so the 19 days elapsed since release in this case falls within a range that is neither especially short nor especially long.
Most recently, at the end of July, Samgyetang-style Soup Set was announced as “ending soon” using the same phrasing, and now, on August 4, a new summer menu item is due to launch. This falls within a period when summer menu items are turning over, though Matsuya has made no official statement linking the end of Twice-cooked Pork to the upcoming new item.
Editor's Note
Hearing that something is ending always makes it suddenly more appealing—such is the nature of limited-time items. If you haven't tried it with Kimchi or Soft-boiled Egg yet, now might be the time to act.
