On the morning of September 10, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a photo of the currently available autumn menu item “Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso” topped with red pickled ginger. The post opened with, “When it comes to Matsuya’s autumn, it’s gotta be spicy miso!!” and continued to urge followers, “Perfect for today’s lunch or dinner!!!” — keeping up the push for the dish since its September 8 release.

The Official Way to Eat It: Add Red Pickled Ginger

The posted photo shows a plate of pork, eggplant, and onion coated in spicy miso sauce and sprinkled with white sesame seeds, served alongside white rice, miso soup, and a cabbage salad. Piled high at the front left of the plate is the red pickled ginger, which the account introduced by saying, “We tried topping it with red pickled ginger.”

Red pickled ginger is a standard condiment kept on every Matsuya table, but the official website’s menu description has never specifically paired it with this spicy miso stir-fry. The arrangement suggested in the September 8 release announcement was limited to the general idea of “adding a side dish,” making today’s suggestion to top the dish with red pickled ginger unique to this post. The account’s staff apparently tried the combination themselves and are now recommending it — pairing the tangy, salty red pickled ginger with the rich, sweet-and-spicy miso sauce.

Two Days After Release, the Official X Account Keeps Pushing “Spicy Miso”

“Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso” only went on sale on September 8, and over the past two days the official X account has posted in quick succession about a release-commemoration Follow & Repost Campaign and a first-taste report. Today’s post continues that same run. Following the release announcement (September 4), which called it “a fixture of Matsuya’s autumn, back again this year,” and the first-taste report (September 8), which said, “Be sure to enjoy the spicy miso season again this year,” this latest post reinforces the same framing — “When it comes to Matsuya’s autumn, it’s spicy miso” — positioning the dish as an autumn staple.

The wording isn’t lifted from the headline or body text of an official announcement — it was written fresh for this post. The opening exclamation, “Spicy miso, let’s go!!” has a rallying-cry feel that’s rare even for the official X account; a similar tone has appeared only occasionally in the past, such as in a July post about the Salt-based Green Onion Bowl. Closing the post with three exclamation marks also stands out for its high energy compared to a typical in-season reminder. The emoticon “(╹◡╹)” has become a familiar recurring fixture of the official account.

“Stir-fried Pork and Eggplant with Spicy Miso” is offered in three sizes: the 880 yen Set Meal, the 680 yen Only option, and the 1,370 yen Double with twice the meat. Details on pricing, sizing, and the release-commemoration Matsuya Point lottery campaign were covered in an earlier article.

Editor's Note

The tanginess of red pickled ginger does seem like it would pair well with that rich, sweet-and-spicy miso sauce. It's nice to know you can switch things up with a condiment that's already sitting on the table.
