Matsuya's "Hiyajiru Vegetable Set" Reclassified from Limited-time to Set Meal Category

It has come to light that on August 11, the listing category for Matsuya’s “Hiyajiru Vegetable Set” (730 yen), launched nationwide on August 4, was switched on the official Matsuya website from the limited-time menu page to the set meal menu page. The URL of the listing page has also changed, from one under the limited-time category to one under the set meal category.
Of the Three Hiyajiru Items Launched Together, Only One Has Moved
The “Hiyajiru Vegetable Set” (product code 28200) is one item in the “Hiyajiru” lineup that launched nationwide at 10:00 a.m. on August 4, alongside the standalone Hiyajiru (390 yen) and others. At the time of the nationwide launch, it was listed on the official Matsuya website’s limited-time menu page.
Then, seven days after release, on August 11, the listing page was moved to the set meal menu category. Three items bearing the “Hiyajiru” name were added simultaneously on that same August 4 — the set meal Hiyajiru Vegetable Set, the standalone Hiyajiru, and the lunch-only Hiyajiru (Choice of Side) — but this time only the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set has had its listing category changed; the other two remain in the positions where they were originally listed.
There is a precedent for a listing category being changed after the fact: “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef,” added on July 28, had its category corrected from “Beef Bowl” to “Bowl” about 40 minutes after being added. That case, however, appears to have been a same-day listing correction, which differs in nature from this instance, where the change came a full week after release.
Now Among the Cheapest in the Set Meal Menu
With the move to the set meal menu, the “Hiyajiru Vegetable Set” is now also positioned within the set meal category in terms of price. Among the 11 items currently listed in the set meal category on the official Matsuya website, prices range from 730 yen to 1,380 yen. At 730 yen, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set is the cheapest of them all, just 60 yen below the next-cheapest item, the Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal (790 yen).
Next comes the 800-yen “Seared” Grilled Salmon Set Meal, the 850-yen Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal, and the 890-yen Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal and Yakiniku Beef Set Meal, with the various Hamburg Steak set meals occupying the upper range at 1,180 to 1,380 yen. The summer-oriented dish built around Hiyajiru has settled into the price bracket that serves as the entry point to the set meal menu.
Hiyajiru’s Price Varies in Three Tiers Depending on How It’s Served
The price of Hiyajiru is tiered according to how it’s served. The standalone Hiyajiru, which comes without rice or salad, is 390 yen; the lunch-oriented “Choice of Side” version, added as a side dish to a main item, is 270 yen; and the set meal version, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set, which comes with rice and salad, is the most expensive at 730 yen. The set meal version costs more because it comes bundled with both rice and salad — a straightforward price difference.
A Summer Menu Item That Went Through a May Test Sale
Hiyajiru was test-sold at select stores in May before launching nationwide about three months later, on August 4. Alongside the nationwide launch, a set deal also began offering up to 70 yen off the main dish when paired with a Beef Bowl, Bowl, or Set Meal. Introduced as a summer menu item for enjoying the umami of dashi served chilled, this dish has, a week after its release, been moved into the regular set meal lineup on the official website.
Editor's Note
The Hiyajiru debuted as a limited-time item, and before we knew it, it had quietly slipped onto the set meal shelf.
