Matsuya Adds 'To Be Discontinued Successively' Notice to Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl, Two Weeks After Launch

MenuLimited-timeDiscontinued

On August 25, Matsuya’s official menu page saw a string of summer limited-time items head for the exit. The Teppan-Grilled bowl Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl (990 yen), launched August 11, picked up a “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice, while the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set (730 yen), launched August 4, was pulled from the menu page entirely. The same day, at 10:00 on August 25, the summer item Pork & Kimchi Set Meal (890 yen) went on sale as a new release.

‘Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl’ Marked ‘To Be Discontinued Successively’ Two Weeks After Launch

The Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl is a Teppan-Grilled bowl launched on August 11 alongside Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl (630 yen). Priced at 990 yen, it sits just above the Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) and just below the Eel Combo Beef Bowl (1,180 yen) in the current bowl-category lineup — about 2.15 times the price of the standard Beef Bowl (460 yen).

Nutritionally, it comes in at 1,020 kcal, 27.1g protein, 51.7g fat, 103.3g carbohydrates, and 5.1g salt equivalent per serving — a hearty bowl with fat content topping 50g.

The “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice appended right after the product name is information that appears only on Matsuya’s official menu page. Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl, launched the same day, carries no such notice — of the two Teppan-Grilled bowls, only the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl carries the discontinuation notice.

How long it will remain available is not stated on the official site as of this writing. Looking back at Matsuya’s past menu updates, items marked “*To Be Discontinued Successively” have typically vanished from the menu around 8 days after the notice appeared on average, with most disappearing within about a week (as fast as 5 days, as long as 18 days). There’s no guarantee the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl will follow the same timeline this time.

Matsuya has previously used the same “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice for the New Grilled Beef Bowl as well. As for the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl, the official X account posted a taste-test the day after launch, followed later by an arrangement topped with a Soft-boiled Egg — it was a bowl the official account had been pushing for the full two weeks since its debut.

‘Hiyajiru Vegetable Set’ Delisted Two Weeks After Being Reclassified as a Set Meal

The other item, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set (730 yen), is part of the Hiyajiru lineup launched on August 4. On August 11, its listing category on the official site was confirmed to have shifted from limited-time menu to set meal menu — and just two weeks after that reclassification, on August 25, it was pulled from the menu page. Its total listing period ran 21 days.

Unlike the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set was pulled outright without ever carrying a “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice. At 730 yen, it was priced even 60 yen below the Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal (790 yen), the cheapest item in the current set-meal lineup — an affordable dish.

Meanwhile, other menu items bearing the Hiyajiru name remain on the official site.

Item Price Status
Hiyajiru Only 390 yen Listed
Hiyajiru Only 270 yen Listed
Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set 1,300 yen Listed (added August 18)
Hiyajiru Vegetable Set 730 yen Delisted August 25

Hiyajiru Only, which debuted alongside the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set on August 4, and the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set, added on August 18, both remain unchanged. Rather than the entire Hiyajiru lineup being withdrawn, it’s only the Vegetable Set that has disappeared first.

A Summer Menu Changeover

August 25, the day both of these developments were confirmed, is also the day the summer item Pork & Kimchi Set Meal (890 yen) went on sale at 10:00. The discontinuation notice for the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl and the delisting of the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set both landed on the same day as the new item’s launch. That said, Matsuya has not officially stated any connection, such as a menu swap.

Editor's Note

If you've had your eye on the Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl, now might be the time for one last bowl. The Hiyajiru Only option is still around, though.
