At 10 AM on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Matsuya released a new set meal, the ‘Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal,’ nationwide. It’s priced at 990 yen for the set meal and 790 yen for the item alone — both the highest in the current set meal category. ‘Gorochiki,’ a line that had centered on curry until now, has arrived as a set meal wrapped in Chinese-style chili sauce.

The release had been announced in advance via an official notice published on October 15 and on Matsuya’s official X account at 6 PM on October 16. The notice described it as ‘the long-awaited “Chinese-style version” from the popular series.’

The menu page lists two options: the item alone and the set meal. The set meal comes with rice and salad, while the item alone does not.

The Priciest Dish in the Set Meal Category

At 990 yen, the set meal is now the most expensive among all set meals currently on sale. Four items tie for second place at 890 yen, a gap of 100 yen.

A Chili Sauce Set Meal Returns After About Seven Years

Matsuya has offered chili sauce set meals multiple times in the past. Tracing through past notices shows the price climbing year after year.

Period Product Name Price
December 2014 Chicken with Chili Sauce Set Meal 630 yen
October 2015 Chicken with Chili Sauce Set Meal (Re-release) 630 yen
October 2016 Chicken with Chili Sauce Set Meal (Re-release) 630 yen
March 2019 Chunky Chicken Chili Sauce Set Meal Only: 650 yen / Large Serving Set Meal: 950 yen
October 2026 Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal Set Meal: 990 yen / Only: 790 yen

The ‘Chicken with Chili Sauce Set Meal’ was released on December 18, 2014 for 630 yen, and was re-released at the same 630 yen in both 2015 and 2016. On March 19, 2019, it was renamed the ‘Chunky Chicken Chili Sauce Set Meal,’ launching at 650 yen for the item alone and 950 yen for the W (double) set meal. This marks the first time a chili sauce set meal has returned to stores in about seven years, since that 2019 version. The product name and composition have changed each time, so these aren’t strictly identical products, but the standalone price has moved from 650 yen in 2019 to 790 yen now.

‘Gorochiki’ Takes a Shape Beyond Curry

‘Gorochiki’ began with the ‘Chunky Chicken Curry and Rice’ released in April 2016, and was first officially named the ‘Gorochiki’ series with the ‘Chunky Chicken in Rich Carbonara Sauce’ released in January 2023. The Batachiki, Neo Tomato, Neo Kashmir, and other entries that followed were all curries as well, and the series has grown centered on curry. This marks the first time it has appeared as a set meal with a Chinese-style sauce, and the official notice itself frames it as the ‘Chinese-style version.’

The regular-menu ‘Gorochiki’ disappeared from the lineup in May 2026, and this new ‘Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal’ carries on its name, returning in a different flavor for the first time in about five months.

The ‘MEGA Serving Fair’ Ends at the Same 10 AM

At the same 10 AM on October 20 as the launch of the ‘Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal,’ the ‘MEGA Serving Fair,’ which doubled the amount of meat, ended its run. According to the official notice, the sales period ran from 10 AM on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 through 10 AM on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with a lineup of two items: the MEGA Serving Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl (1,200 yen) and the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving (1,140 yen). The launch of the new set meal and the end of the fair’s sales switch over at the exact same moment.

Editor's Note

Who knew 'Gorochiki,' long synonymous with curry, would make its comeback in Chinese-style chili sauce — and as the priciest set meal on the menu, no less.
