Matsuya Opens Shinmatsudo Store Today, Second Location Alongside Shinmatsudo West Exit Store in Shinmatsudo
Matsuya has opened a new store, “Matsuya Shinmatsudo Store (2323),” in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, at 10:00 a.m. on August 1, 2026. The store also houses “Matsunoya,” a tonkatsu specialty restaurant, at Unit A, 1st Floor, M-site Building, 4-54 Shinmatsudo, Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. As of July 10, the store had already appeared on the official store list with a notice reading “Opening August 1 at 10:00 a.m.,” and the opening went ahead as announced.
Two Matsuya Stores Now Side by Side in the Shinmatsudo Area
What stands out about the new Shinmatsudo Store is its proximity to an existing location. Matsuya Shinmatsudo West Exit Store (0674, 2-21-103 Shinmatsudo, Matsudo City), which also carries the “Shinmatsudo” name, is already nearby, roughly within 500 meters, or a few minutes on foot, from Shinmatsudo Store (4-54 Shinmatsudo, Matsudo City). This means the Shinmatsudo area now has two Matsuya stores standing side by side: the West Exit Store and the new Shinmatsudo Store.
Note that this distance is an estimate based on the two stores’ address coordinates, not a measurement along an actual walking route. Even so, having two Matsuya stores within the same area is a level of density distinctive to Shinmatsudo within Matsudo City.
10th Store in Matsudo City, 77th in Chiba Prefecture
With the addition of Shinmatsudo Store, Matsuya now operates 10 stores within Matsudo City. Across Chiba Prefecture as a whole, this is the 77th currently operating store, placing the prefecture tied for 5th nationwide among Matsuya’s 1,207 stores. Within Chiba, a fiercely contested area for Beef Bowl chains, Matsudo City stands out as one of its key districts.
4th “Matsunoya-Attached” Store in Matsudo City
Shinmatsudo Store also houses Matsunoya, the tonkatsu specialty restaurant. Within Matsudo City, it becomes the 4th Matsunoya-attached store, following Kita-Matsudo Store, Matsudo Kogasaki Store, and Matsudo Goko Store. With this addition, the city gains one more location where customers can choose between Matsuya’s Beef Bowl and Matsunoya’s tonkatsu and set meals under one roof.
Nationwide, Matsunoya-attached stores number 461 out of Matsuya’s 1,207 currently operating stores, or about 38% of the total. While the combination itself is not rare, it shows that pairing new stores with Matsunoya from the outset has become an established format.
22 Days from Notice to Opening, as Matsunoya-Attached New Stores Keep Coming
22 days passed between the July 10 notice and today’s opening. Looking at recent new stores of the same format, Oyama Kizawa Store and Kumagaya Ishihara Store were both listed on July 9 and opened July 31, a 22-day span, while Tomisato Interchange Store was listed July 1 and opened July 17, a 16-day span. The lead time from notice to opening varies by store, and Shinmatsudo Store’s 22 days falls on the longer side.
Since this spring, Matsunoya-attached new stores have been added one after another. From early May through mid-July 2026, 17 stores have joined the official store list, including Isahaya Store, Gozencho Oike Store, Oshu Mizusawa Store, Utsubo Honmachi Store, Shin-Yurigaoka Store, Mibu Store, Toyokawa Hachiman Store, Gamo Yonchome Store, Nishi-Urawa Eki Store, Ishioka Store, Numazu Higashi Shiiji Store, Tomisato Interchange Store, Oyama Kizawa Store, Kumagaya Ishihara Store, Ichinomiya Onishi Store, and now Shinmatsudo Store. The opening of Shinmatsudo Store can be positioned as part of this broader trend of Matsuya expanding its national store network using the Matsunoya-paired new-store format.
Editor's Note
An era where you can hop between two Matsuya stores in Shinmatsudo... though honestly, the happiest dilemma might just be choosing Matsunoya's tonkatsu at the new store first.
