Matsuya's 'Original Sauce Roast Beef' Launches Today in 4 Varieties, from 880 Yen (Only) to 1,470 Yen (Double)
This article has a newer version
Matsuya Foods launched a new roast-beef-centered series, ‘Original Sauce Roast Beef,’ at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Matsuya locations nationwide (excluding some stores). The dish pairs tender roast beef with egg yolk and green onion, tied together with Matsuya’s signature Original Sauce alongside a horseradish-based Raifort Sauce, and the company describes it as “a menu item to savor with all five senses.” Roast beef is an unusual centerpiece for Matsuya, whose mainstays are Beef Bowl and curry, and the chain rolled out all four varieties at once: the core Only version served as a rice bowl, a larger-portion Double, and versions layered onto Beef Bowl and curry.
An Unusual Roast Beef for Matsuya: Egg Yolk Layered with Two Sauces
The core Only version is a rice bowl topped with sliced roast beef, an egg yolk dropped in the center, and finely chopped green onion scattered on top. It pairs Matsuya’s rich, signature Original Sauce with the refreshing, horseradish-based Raifort Sauce, a combination designed to balance out the richness of the meat’s fat. The company says the “moist, tender roast beef” is complemented by “the smoothness of the egg yolk and the crisp texture of the green onion,” and suggests breaking the yolk at whatever moment you like to enjoy how the flavor changes.
For Matsuya, whose mainstays are Beef Bowl, a range of Set Meals, and curry, a menu item built around roast beef as the star is unusual. This time, the chain rolled out that single dish simultaneously across each of its main formats — rice bowl, Beef Bowl, and curry.
From the 880-Yen Only to the 1,470-Yen Double: Prices and Nutrition for All 4 Varieties
The prices and nutritional information for the four varieties launched are as follows. Each comes in a single size, and the price differences come from the amount of roast beef and the base (rice bowl, Beef Bowl, or curry).
| Product | Price (tax included) | Energy | Protein | Fat | Carbohydrates | Salt Equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef (Only, with Miso Soup) | 880 yen | 643kcal | 24.2g | 20.0g | 86.3g | 4.8g |
| Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Beef Bowl | 1,150 yen | 877kcal | 31.8g | 41.0g | 89.8g | 5.7g |
| Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Founding Beef Curry and Rice | 1,380 yen | 1,029kcal | 35.1g | 46.9g | 108.6g | 7.5g |
| Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Double | 1,470 yen | 1,001kcal | 38.1g | 33.5g | 129.5g | 7.9g |
The core Only version, at 643kcal and 24.2g of protein, is relatively light for a rice bowl. The Double, with twice the roast beef, jumps to 38.1g of protein and 129.5g of carbohydrates, making it the most substantial of the four. The Beef Bowl version, layered with Matsuya’s beef, comes to 877kcal, while the version paired with Matsuya’s Founding Beef Curry and Rice reaches 1,029kcal — each change of base pushing the dish toward around 1,000kcal.
The 1,470-Yen Double Ranks Among Matsuya’s Priciest Items; the Curry Version Isn’t Sold at Co-located Stores
Looking at the price bracket, the core Only version’s 880 yen matches the “Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal” (with Soft-boiled Egg and Kimchi), and sits in a range bordered by the “Beef Yakiniku Set Meal” and “Boneless Short Rib Yakiniku Set Meal” (890 yen, 10 yen higher) and the “Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal” (850 yen, 30 yen lower). The Double, with its extra roast beef, is priced at 1,470 yen — among the highest on Matsuya’s standing menu, whether compared to Beef Bowl items or Set Meals — with the “Giant Serving Set” (1,430 yen, 40 yen lower) the closest match. The Beef Bowl version’s 1,150 yen is also the only one among the current eight Beef Bowl items priced above 1,000 yen.
Of the four varieties, “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Founding Beef Curry and Rice” is not sold at stores where Matsuya and My Curry Shokudo operate jointly. Matsuya Foods’ official app is also distributing a coupon worth up to 100 yen off, valid from 10 a.m. on July 28 through 10 a.m. on August 4.
Editor's Note
Who would have guessed roast beef would show up in the kingdom of Beef Bowl! You might plan to start easy with the 880-yen Only, but with the Double and the Beef Bowl version tempting you too, this is a genuinely indulgent lineup of four.
