Tender roast beef is topped with egg yolk and scallion and coated with a pair of sauces: Matsuya’s signature “Original Sauce” and a horseradish-based “Raifort Sauce.” The official announcement calls it a “blissful menu for all five senses.” Roast beef is an unusual headliner for Matsuya, whose lineup is built around Beef Bowls and curry, and the chain is rolling out four varieties at once: a bowl-style Only item as the core, an extra-large “Double,” and versions layered onto the Beef Bowl and curry.

The core item, “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef” (Only), is served as a bowl and costs 880 yen (tax included) for dine-in, with miso soup included. From there, the lineup includes the “Double” with extra roast beef at 1,470 yen, a Beef Bowl version layered onto the Beef Bowl at 1,150 yen, and a version paired with Matsuya’s “Founding Beef Curry and Rice” at 1,380 yen. Egg Yolk and Two Sauces Over Roast Beef, a Rarity for Matsuya

The core Only item is a bowl with an egg yolk placed in the center of sliced roast beef and finely chopped scallions scattered over it. Matsuya’s rich “Original Sauce” is paired with a refreshing “Raifort Sauce” made with horseradish, a combination designed to temper the fat of the meat just enough. The official announcement says the “moist, tender roast beef” is joined by “the mellowness of the egg yolk and the crisp texture of scallions,” and suggests breaking the yolk at the moment of your choosing to enjoy the change in flavor.

The 1,470-Yen Double Is Among Matsuya’s Priciest; the Curry Version Is Not Sold at Co-located Stores

Looking at the price range, the core Only item at 880 yen matches the “Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal” (Soft-boiled Egg, Kimchi) and sits in a band with the “Set Meal of Grilled Beef” and “Set Meal of Grilled Boneless Short Rib” (890 yen), 10 yen higher, and the “Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal” (850 yen), 30 yen lower. The Double, with extra roast beef, at 1,470 yen is among the highest-priced items in Matsuya’s permanent lineup, not only among Beef Bowls but including set meals, with the “Giant Serving Set” (1,430 yen), 40 yen lower, the closest in level. The Beef Bowl version at 1,150 yen is also the only one of the current eight Beef Bowl items priced above 1,000 yen.

Of the four, “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Founding Beef Curry and Rice” is not sold at stores co-located with Matsuya and My Curry Shokudo. On the official Matsuya Foods app, a coupon for up to 100 yen off is also being distributed from 10 a.m. on July 28 until 10 a.m. on August 4.
