Matsuya Marks "Yatara Beef Bowl" and Five Other Limited-Time Items for Successive Discontinuation

Matsuya’s official website confirmed, as of August 5, that six items sold as limited-time offerings have been marked “*To Be Discontinued Successively.” The targets are three bowl items featuring summer’s classic eel — the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl, the Grilled Eel Bowl, and the Eel Combo Beef Bowl — two items named after a Shinshu regional dish, the Yatara Beef Bowl and the Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal, and the Samgyetang-style Soup Only. All are marked for discontinuation on the official site’s menu page, signaling that Matsuya’s summer lineup is shifting toward its next set of offerings.

“Samgyetang-style Soup” Hands Off to “Hiyajiru” — Officially Confirmed as a Handover

Of the six items, the Samgyetang-style Soup Only shows the clearest sign of ending. The official X account posted on the morning of July 31, “Samgyetang-style Soup will be ending soon…,” announcing “Hiyajiru” as its successor, arriving from 10:00 on Tuesday, August 4. As announced, Hiyajiru launched on August 4, and the official X account posted the same day, “It’s finally here! ‘Hiyajiru’ has arrived at Matsuya!” The Samgyetang-style Soup Only , previously offered at lunch, was already off the menu as of August 4, and with the Only version now also marked for discontinuation, the Samgyetang-style Soup series is coming to a close.

The Samgyetang-style Soup Only was priced at 330 yen, 162 kcal. Among the standalone soup items, it sat one step above the Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Only (240 yen) and just below Simmered Beef & Onion (Regular Serving) at 370 yen.

Summer’s Classic Eel: All Three Bowls Head Toward the End at Once

The three eel bowls were released together on June 23 as summer’s classic eel lineup. The Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl (1,180 yen), Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen), and Eel Combo Beef Bowl (1,180 yen) have all been marked for discontinuation, 43 days after their release. The day before, on August 4, three eel side dishes including the Grilled Eel Plate also received the same “*To Be Discontinued Successively” label, meaning the eel menu — bowls and sides alike — is now entering its discontinuation phase across the board.

Lined up by price, the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl and Eel Combo Beef Bowl match exactly down to the yen across every size: Regular Serving 1,180 yen, Double 1,880 yen, Triple 2,580 yen. The Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) is uniformly 200 yen cheaper across the board, priced at 1,680 yen for Double and 2,380 yen for Triple.

Shinshu’s Two “Yatara” Items: Marked for Discontinuation Less Than a Month After Release

The two items named after the Shinshu regional dish “Yatara” had only just made their debut at Matsuya on July 7. The Yatara Beef Bowl (Regular Serving 650 yen) and Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal (1,180 yen) have both been marked for discontinuation, just 29 days after release — a notably short run.

The Yatara Beef Bowl is offered from Small Serving at 620 yen up to Regular Serving 650 yen, Large Topping-Only Serving 820 yen, Large Serving 870 yen, and Extra-large Serving 1,050 yen. Within the Beef Bowl lineup’s Regular Serving price range, it sits one step above the Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce Beef Bowl and Kimchi Beef Bowl (560 yen each), and one step below the Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl and Cheese Beef Bowl (660 yen each) — 190 yen above the standard Beef Bowl (460 yen).

The Yatara Japanese-style Hamburg Steak Set Meal (1,180 yen) is priced exactly the same as the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal and the Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal, forming a three-way tie. It was also listed in an Only version at 630 yen, a Single at 830 yen, and a Triple at 1,580 yen.

As for exact discontinuation timing, none of the items have a specific date listed on the official website — all are simply marked “successively.” Some, like the Samgyetang-style Soup, already have a successor released, while others, like the bowls and hamburg steak items, appear likely to end gradually depending on stock and store.
