Matsuya's Official X Account Previews the Handoff from "Samgyetang-style Soup" to "Hiyajiru" on August 4

On the morning of July 31, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) announced that the limited-time “Samgyetang-style Soup” would soon be ending, urging customers who “haven’t tried it yet” or “want one last bowl” to head to a store before it’s gone. The post also previewed “Hiyajiru,” the next dish in line, launching August 4. With the summer heat continuing, the announcement marks a seasonal handoff from the warm Samgyetang-style Soup to the cold Hiyajiru.

A Call to Enjoy “Samgyetang-style Soup” One Last Time

Samgyetang-style Soup is a limited-time menu item that launched on June 23, priced at 330 yen as a standalone side dish and 210 yen as part of the lunch selectable side option. Rich with the umami of chicken, it evokes the Korean dish samgyetang. The official X account had previously shared a bit of trivia that in stores, it’s sometimes called by the shorthand “Samge” or “Getan.”

In the photo accompanying the post, a milky-white soup is poured into a vermilion bowl, with cubed tofu, carrot, green onion, shiitake mushroom, and chicken floating in it, served alongside a Beef Bowl. The post did not specify an exact end date, and as of now, Samgyetang-style Soup remains listed on the official website’s menu. With the dish only described as “ending soon,” there appears to still be a window of time left to try it before it’s gone.

The Next Dish: “Hiyajiru,” Starting August 4

Taking over from Samgyetang-style Soup is “Hiyajiru,” arriving from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4. Known as a local specialty of Miyazaki, Hiyajiru lets you enjoy the umami of dashi served ice-cold, and has been previewed as a perfect menu item for the hot season.

The main format will be the “Hiyajiru Set,” where pairing Hiyajiru with an eligible main dish applies a set discount: 30 yen off the regular price for Beef Bowl items, 50 yen off for bowl items, and 70 yen off for set meal items. Eligible items include Beef Bowl, Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce Beef Bowl, Kimchi Beef Bowl, Cheese Beef Bowl, Umatoma Cheese Beef Bowl, Kimchi & Short Rib Bowl, Beef Bibimbap Bowl, Pork Loin Bowl with Salt-based Green Onion, New Grilled Beef Bowl, and various set meals. As standalone items, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set is offered at 730 yen, and Hiyajiru Only at 390 yen. This applies at Matsuya locations nationwide that serve Beef Bowl, Curry and Rice, Set Meals, and other bowl dishes (excluding certain locations and Okinawa).

This is not the first time Matsuya has served Hiyajiru. In May, it was offered at select stores, and the official X account introduced it as a Miyazaki specialty. This time, Hiyajiru will appear as a summer staple in set form at Matsuya locations nationwide. In a changeover timed with the final days of Samgyetang-style Soup, a cold dish is set to take its place on the menu.
