Matsuya Official X Hints at Handoff from 'Samgyetang-style Soup' to 'Hiyajiru' on August 4

On the morning of July 31, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) announced that the limited-time “Samgyetang-style Soup” will be ending soon, urging customers who haven’t tried it yet, or who want one last taste, to make a dash for it. The post also teased the next item, “Hiyajiru,” arriving on August 4. With the heat continuing, the account signaled a seasonal handoff from a warming Samgyetang-style Soup to a chilled Hiyajiru.

“Samgyetang-style Soup”: A Call to Enjoy It One Last Time

The Samgyetang-style Soup is a limited-time menu item that debuted on June 23, priced at 330 yen as a standalone side and 210 yen as a choice of side with a lunch set. Rich with chicken flavor, the soup recalls the Korean dish samgyetang. The official X account had previously shared a bit of trivia: in stores, staff apparently call it “Samge” or “Getang” for short.

In the photo attached to the post, a cloudy white soup is served in a vermilion bowl with cubed tofu, carrot, scallion, shiitake mushrooms, and chicken, set alongside a Beef Bowl. The post does not state an end date, and the Samgyetang-style Soup is still listed on the official website’s menu as of now. It appears to be at the “ending soon” stage, with a little time left to enjoy it one last time.

The Next Bowl: “Hiyajiru,” Starting August 4

Following the Samgyetang-style Soup is “Hiyajiru,” arriving on Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. Known as a regional specialty of Miyazaki, Hiyajiru is a summer dish that lets you savor the umami of dashi served chilled, and it is billed as the perfect menu item for hot weather.

It is offered mainly as a “Hiyajiru Set,” in which adding Hiyajiru to an eligible main dish applies a set price. Beef Bowls get 30 yen off the regular price, Bowls get 50 yen off, and Set Meals get 70 yen off. Eligible items include the Beef Bowl, Green Onion and Soft-boiled Egg Beef Bowl, Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce, Bowl of Mixed Simmered Beef and Kimchi, Beef Bowl topped with Cheese, Beef Bowl topped with Tomato and Cheese, Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl, Beef Bibimbap Bowl, Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl, and New Grilled Beef Bowl, as well as various Set Meals. As standalone items, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set is 730 yen and Hiyajiru Only is 390 yen. The offering is available at Matsuya stores nationwide that serve Beef Bowls, Curry and Rice, Set Meals, and other Bowls (excluding some stores and Okinawa).

This is not the first time Hiyajiru has appeared at Matsuya. In May, some stores served Hiyajiru, and the official X account introduced it as a Miyazaki specialty. This time, it will arrive at Matsuya stores nationwide in set form as a summer staple. As the chilled bowl takes over the menu, it effectively replaces the final days of the Samgyetang-style Soup.
