Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a video on the night of July 31 trying the ‘Mirai no Lemon Sour,’ on limited sale in quantities at select stores. Captioned with a nod to the Friday-night mood, the post shows the moment a lemon slice floats to the surface as the can is opened.

A “Full-Open” Can Whose Entire Top Comes Away

The video features a can of “Mirai no Lemon Sour ORIGINAL” (Original Lemon Sour). As the tab is pulled back by hand, the can isn’t just punctured at a drinking spout — the entire top comes away in what’s known as a Full-open can, exposing the can’s full interior. Looking down into the opened can reveals a cloudy white liquid with a single real lemon slice floating on top, its segments and seeds clearly visible. In the post, Matsuya’s official account commented, “Pop the lid open and a lemon slice comes floating right up” and “This moment gets us pumped.”

On the side of the can, you can make out the text “Mirai no Lemon Sour ORIGINAL,” a large illustration of a lemon cross-section, the Asahi logo, and labeling for “liqueur (sparkling),” “5% fruit juice,” and “Alc. 5%.”

Two Varieties, “Original” and “Plain,” Each Priced at 290 Yen

“Mirai no Lemon Sour” comes in two varieties — Original Lemon Sour and Plain Lemon Sour — both priced at 290 yen (tax included). In this latest post, Matsuya’s official account reiterated the lineup, noting, “Two varieties, ‘Original’ and ‘Plain,’ are now on sale.” The launch was first announced in an official notice dated July 23, with sales beginning at select Matsuya locations at 10:00 a.m. on July 28, and at select stores operating primarily under the Matsunoya banner at 3:00 p.m. on July 29. Availability isn’t nationwide — it’s a limited-quantity item offered only at select stores.

A Fresh Take on Sour-Style Alcohol for Matsuya’s Drink Menu

When it comes to alcohol on Matsuya’s drink menu, bottled beer (Asahi Super Dry) has long been the standard, and it remains part of the regular menu lineup. This lemon sour, by contrast, falls into the Chu-hai and sour category and is positioned as a select-store-only offering. For a beer-centric alcohol lineup, the visual novelty of a lemon slice floating up when the can is opened makes it a distinctly fresh addition.

A Friday-Night Taste Test to Cap Off the Week

The post went up on Friday, July 31. Earlier that same day, Matsuya’s official account had announced the August 4 launch of summer menu items including Hiyajiru and Mini Cold Udon. This taste-test video of the “Mirai no Lemon Sour,” posted in the spirit of the Friday-night mood, served as the day’s closing note. The post also carries the hashtag “#お酒は20歳になってから” (roughly, “Drink alcohol only after you turn 20”).

Editor's Note

The moment the lid pops fully open and a lemon slice bobs up is genuinely mood-lifting. A perfect nightcap for a Friday well spent.
