Matsuya's Official X Suggests Three Toppings for Palak Paneer, Including Karegyu
On September 27, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) published a post introducing topping combinations for its limited-time curry “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice” (known as “Palak Paneer”). It listed three options: Karegyu (with a beef bowl), Chicken Curry and Loin Cutlet Curry, and urged followers to “Pile on your favorite topping for a truly hearty meal!”
Three Toppings: Beef, Chicken and Pork
The post shows each of the three toppings with an emoji: beef (🐮), chicken (🐔) and pork (🐷). Karegyu is Palak Paneer paired with a beef bowl, Chicken Curry is paired with chicken, and Loin Cutlet Curry is topped with a loin cutlet. The Loin Cutlet Curry carries the note “Stores co-located with Matsunoya or My Curry Shokudo.”
Of these, “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu” (1,050 yen) and “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice” (960 yen) were already listed in the price table of the official announcement dated September 17, so the post is a reminder of existing items. “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice” (1,170 yen), on the other hand, did not appear in the launch announcement’s text or price table, making this the first time the combination has been presented. It is offered only at stores co-located with Matsunoya or My Curry Shokudo.
The photo attached to the post shows a plate of white rice topped with a beef bowl, Palak Paneer poured into a white bowl bearing the Matsuya logo, and miso soup, an example of Karegyu. White cottage cheese is scattered here and there over the deep green curry. In the lower left of the photo is an illustration of Macky & Yakky with musical notes.
Five Days After Launch, a Fourth Post
This is the fourth official X post about Palak Paneer, following the September 18 launch announcement, the September 21 “on sale tomorrow” notice, and the September 24 “big hit, on sale now” post with a photo of the dish. In the five days since the September 22 launch, the account has kept up its messaging: announcement, day-before notice, popularity pitch and now topping suggestions. The opening phrase this time, “big hit,” differs from the “long-awaited by curry fans” wording in the announcement and carries over the “big hit, on sale now” phrasing used in the post three days earlier.
Previously: Roast Beef Founding Beef Curry
The four Palak Paneer items (780 yen on its own, Karegyu at 1,050 yen, Chicken Curry at 960 yen and Loin Cutlet Curry at 1,170 yen) have all been on the menu since September 22 and remain listed. In the limited-time curry category, the preceding “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Founding Beef Curry and Rice” ended its listing on September 8, so there was a gap of about two weeks before the Palak Paneer lineup took its place as the next limited-time curry.
Editor's Note
Beef, chicken and pork all make an appearance. That the loin cutlet is only at co-located stores is a quietly tricky snag.
