This same-sized southward shift, repeated ever since the store’s debut on July 9, now marks the 8th time in total.

The latitude of this Oyama Kizawa Store had already been repeatedly shifting south in 0.000001-degree increments throughout July, while it waited to open. It shifted south by the same amount again on opening day, bringing the count to 7 by that point. With this latest change on August 9, the total now reaches 8, combined with all the previously reported shifts. Every single shift has been a consistent 0.000001 degrees, and the direction has always been south.

Two Matsuya Stores in Oyama City, 11 in Tochigi Prefecture

Oyama City, where all this is happening, has only two Matsuya stores: Oyama Kizawa Store and Matsuya Oyama Store (2096). The two stores are about 5.1 kilometers apart in a straight line — rather than being scattered around the city, each seems to cover its own separate area.

Even across all of Tochigi Prefecture, Matsuya has only 11 stores. The breakdown is 5 in Utsunomiya City, 2 in Oyama City, and 1 each in Sano City, Tochigi City, Mibu Town, and Ashikaga City. Considering that nationwide, Tokyo leads with 337 stores, followed by Kanagawa Prefecture with 112 and Osaka Prefecture with 111, Tochigi Prefecture’s presence counts as mid-sized. And within that, one single store has now piled up an 11-centimeter southward shift eight times over.
