Matsuya's Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal, With Choice of Side Dish, Now Marked 'To Be Discontinued Successively'

On August 5, Matsuya added a “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice to the official site listings for the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal with Kimchi and Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal with Soft-boiled Egg. The discontinuation notice comes just 22 days after the nationwide launch on July 14.

As of August 2, Matsuya’s official X account had already posted, “Twice-cooked Pork will be discontinued soon” and “Have you tried both the Kimchi set and the Soft-boiled Egg set?” This new notice on the official site formally confirms that earlier announcement.

How Long Will It Be Available?

Neither the official site nor the official X account gives a specific end date — both simply say “soon” or “successively.” However, looking at past limited-time menu items that carried the same “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice before disappearing from the listings, the gap between the notice appearing and the item’s removal has generally fallen within 6 to 19 days, averaging around 9 days. Applying that pattern to the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal, which received the notice on August 5, it will likely disappear sometime from mid- to late August. This is only a trend based on past cases and doesn’t guarantee an exact end date, but it should serve as a rough guide for anyone planning one last visit.

Two Choices for the Side Dish: Kimchi or Soft-boiled Egg

The Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal comes with rice and miso soup, plus a choice of side dish between Kimchi and Soft-boiled Egg — a feature reflected in how the two versions are listed side by side on the official site. This “choice of side dish” had been a selling point since the July 14 launch.

The Soft-boiled Egg set kept generating moments after launch too — on July 20, the official X account showcased a way of eating it with the egg placed on top of the Twice-cooked Pork.

The Kimchi set has also been one half of the choice since launch. With so little time left, agonizing over which one to pick right up to the end is part of the fun.

Price and Nutrition

Pricing is the same regardless of which side dish is chosen, with three sizes: Only for 680 yen, Set Meal for 880 yen, and Double for 1,370 yen. Comparing the Set Meal (Regular Serving), it sits in the mid-range among set meals — 10 yen cheaper than the pricier Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal and Yakiniku Beef Set Meal (both 890 yen for Regular Serving), and 30 yen more than the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal (850 yen for Regular Serving).

This notice on the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal isn’t an isolated discontinuation. Between August 4 and 5, the same “*To Be Discontinued Successively” notice appeared one after another on several other limited-time items too, including the Yatara Beef Bowl, placing the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal within this broader wave of summer menu turnover. Among these, the official X account has announced Hiyajiru (launched August 4) as the successor to the Samgyetang-style Soup, and a new replacement menu item for the New Grilled Beef Bowl as well. No successor has been announced for the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal at this time.

Meanwhile, Soy Milk Pudding, which debuted on the same day as the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal, July 14, isn’t treated as a limited-time item and remains on sale without any discontinuation notice. Even among products that launched side by side on the same day, some have settled in as regulars while others are on their way out as limited-time offerings.
