Matsuya Splits October's 'MATSUYA PASS' Into App and Card Versions
This article has a newer version
Matsuya’s official X account announced on the night of September 24 that it would run its discount pass, “MATSUYA PASS,” again in October. The post read, “Matsu Pass is back again starting in October,” before revealing, “And get this—starting this time, there will be two versions: the 【Matsuya App Version】 and the 【Card Version】!?” It signaled a shift from the physical card that had been the sole format so far to a two-track lineup. The card version has already gone on sale in stores, while the app version was left for “more details later,” promising a follow-up.
Discount Details and Valid Period Printed on the Card Version
The October card, now on early sale in stores, states the discount amount and the valid period. Set Meals get 100 yen off, and Beef Bowl, Curry and Rice, and Bowl items get 70 yen off, with “Morning Meal and some menu items excluded” noted for both. The valid period runs from 0:00 on Thursday, October 1, 2026 to 23:59 on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The card includes usage instructions—“Please show this card to a staff member when receiving your order” and “Scan the QR code with the Matsuya App or the ticket vending machine before use”—and directs customers to check the back of the card for details on eligible items.
The card is designed to resemble a page-a-day calendar, with “October” and a large “10” on the right side alongside the Matsuya logo. The largest discount, 100 yen off Set Meals, matches the same level as the “up to 100 yen off” offered through the July edition.
The App/Card Two-Track Format Starts This Time
MATSUYA PASS has so far been offered centered on a single physical card. The first edition in March 2026 supported QR code scanning at ticket vending machines, and the July edition, which went on early sale on June 26, expanded the ways it could be used by also allowing the same card’s QR code to be scanned via the Matsuya App. The eligible brands were also expanded with the July edition, from Matsuya alone to group stores including Matsunoya, My Curry Shokudo, Shoken Chinese Dining, Matsutaro, Steak-ya Matsu, and Steak Set Meal Matsugyu.
Furthermore, on July 4, the official X account, replying to feedback it had received, explained, “Looking at MATSUYA PASS usage history, a certain number of people use ticket vending machines, so we are considering using both the physical card and a digital option together,” touching on how the physical card would be handled going forward. This time’s split into an “App Version” and a “Card Version” is an extension of that ongoing shift in how the pass is offered. The specific format and rollout method for the app version had not been announced as of the time of the post.
Third Time Following March and July, With No Edition in August or September
This October edition marks the third run of MATSUYA PASS, following the March and July editions. After the July edition’s valid period ended on July 31, no new edition was rolled out in August or September, making this a comeback after roughly two months. The post’s phrase “back again” refers to this return after that gap. Both previous editions were sold for 200 yen, but the October edition’s price is not stated in either the post or on the card.
The post is written in a casual tone, mixing in the emoticon “(╹◡╹)” along with phrases like “And get this—starting this time!?” and “Better grab yours soon!”
