On October 2, Matsuya removed three items from its official menu page: the ‘Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl’, the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’, and the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’. All three had been announced in advance as being discontinued, and the removal marks the end of a turnover of high-priced menu items that had continued since summer.

‘Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl’ Delisted 52 Days After Launch

The ‘Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl’ (990 yen, Only) went on sale on August 11. Two weeks after launch, on August 25, a note reading ‘※To be discontinued successively’ was added to the remarks column of the official menu page, and on September 20 the official X account also announced that the item would be discontinued soon. On October 2 it disappeared from the official menu page, confirming a run of 52 days from launch to delisting.

Other items that received a discontinuation notice have generally stayed listed for about one to two weeks after the notice appeared, but this item remained for a long 38 days.

‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ and ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ Delisted After Two-Phase Run

The ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ (980 yen) and the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ (1,180 yen) were rolled out in two phases in 2026. The first phase began on June 23, when they launched as three limited-time menu items together with the ‘Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl’, and ended on August 11. Then, on August 25, the two items other than the ‘Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl’, the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ and the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’, returned as store-limited menu items at 736 stores nationwide and were also listed again on the official menu page.

On September 22, the note ‘※To be discontinued successively’ was added to the remarks column for both items, and on October 2 they were removed from the official menu page. For the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’, the listing on the store-limited page had already ended on September 22, so what ended this time was the listing on the official menu page. The ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’, on the other hand, was never listed on the store-limited page and appeared only on the official menu page.

Prices stayed the same across both phases: the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ was 980 yen (Double 1,680 yen, Triple 2,380 yen), and the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ was 1,180 yen (Double 1,880 yen, Triple 2,580 yen).

Bowl Price Ceiling Falls from 1,180 Yen to 690 Yen

The three items delisted this time sat at the high end of the Bowl category. At 1,180 yen, the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ matched the highest price tier on the entire current menu, the Hamburg Steak Set Meals (the Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal and the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal, 1,180 yen each), while the ‘Beef Short Rib & Offal Bowl’ at 990 yen and the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ at 980 yen were the next most expensive.

With these three items removed, the Bowl category is left with four items: the ‘Matsuya’s Yakiniku Beef Bowl’ at 630 yen, the ‘Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl’ at 630 yen, the ‘Kimchi Kalbi Bowl’ at 690 yen, and the ‘Beef Bibimbap Bowl’ at 690 yen, so the upper end of the price range has dropped from 1,180 yen to 690 yen.

In addition, the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ and the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ came in Double and Triple sizes, and the Triple of the ‘Eel Combo Beef Bowl’ reached 2,580 yen. That was far higher than the size options remaining among the Bowl and Set Meal Only items (the Triple Hamburg Steak Set Meal is 1,780 yen).

Editor's Note

Eel season has truly come to an end. I'm a little curious what that 2,580 yen Triple bowl was actually like.
