Matsuya to Temporarily Close 3 Stores, Including Kamisu, from 3 PM on October 13
This article has a newer version
It has come to light that three Matsuya locations — Kamisu Store (1753), Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store (0938), and Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store (1844) — will all temporarily close from 3 PM on October 13, 2026. All three stores will suspend operations at the same date and time, with each planning to resume business at a later date. Kamisu Store is located in Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture, while Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store and Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store are in Kanagawa Prefecture, meaning three stores spanning two prefectures are aligning their closures on the same day.
All Three Stores Close at 3 PM on October 13, but Reopening Dates Differ by a Day
The temporary closure date and time is identical across all three stores: 3 PM on October 13, 2026. The reopening dates, however, differ — Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store reopens at 3 PM on October 23, while Kamisu Store and Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store reopen at 3 PM on October 22. The closure period runs 10 days for Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store and 9 days for both Kamisu Store and Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store, making Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store’s closure one day longer.
| Store | Temporary Closure | Reopening | Closure Period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store | 3 PM, October 13 | 3 PM, October 23 | 10 days |
| Kamisu Store | 3 PM, October 13 | 3 PM, October 22 | 9 days |
| Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store | 3 PM, October 13 | 3 PM, October 22 | 9 days |
The Nearest Reliable Matsuya During the Closure Varies Greatly by Store
Even though all three are undergoing the same kind of temporary closure, whether customers can visit a nearby Matsuya during the break varies greatly from store to store.
Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store is the best positioned. Higashi-Totsuka Higashiguchi Store (1875) sits just 0.18 km away in a straight line, a sister store on the opposite exit of the same Higashi-Totsuka Station, meaning customers can switch to it within easy walking distance during the closure.
Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store also has alternatives within the same Kanagawa Prefecture. The nearest is Isehara Store (0552), 3.97 km away in a straight line, while the closest option within Hiratsuka City itself is Hiratsuka Store (0161), 7.23 km away.
Kamisu Store faces the toughest situation. Located in Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture, the nearest Matsuya in a straight line is Sawara Store (0989) in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, across the prefectural border, 13.85 km away. Narrowing the search to Ibaraki Prefecture itself, the closest is Ryugasaki Store (2284), a full 41.60 km away in a straight line. Of the three stores, Kamisu Store is the only one with no Matsuya within its own prefecture that customers could easily drop into during the closure. All distances given are straight-line measurements, so the actual travel distance would be longer.
112 Stores in Kanagawa, 21 in Ibaraki
Matsuya operates 112 stores in Kanagawa Prefecture and 21 in Ibaraki Prefecture. Of the stores temporarily closing this time, two — Higashi-Totsuka Nishiguchi Store and Hiratsuka Kitakaname Store — are in Kanagawa, and one, Kamisu Store, is in Ibaraki. Since all three are set to reopen, this is a temporary suspension and does not represent any reduction in the overall store network.
Multi-Store Temporary Closure Announcements Are a Recurring Occurrence
Looking back at past announcements, Matsuya has repeatedly issued notices of temporary closures and reopenings tied to renovations and similar reasons, and it is not unusual for multiple stores to temporarily close on the same day.
Editor's Note
Higashi-Totsuka has a sister store just a stone's throw away, but Kamisu has no nearby Matsuya to rely on, so the wait until reopening might feel a bit longer there.
