Matsuya's Official X Posts a Taste Report on the 'Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal' the Day After Its Release
Just after 8 PM on October 21, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a report confirming it had actually eaten the new “Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal.” The item had only just gone on sale nationwide the previous day, October 20, 2026, at 10 AM, making this a taste report posted the day after its release.
The post opens with, “We had the newly released Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal! (╹◡╹),” and continues, “Believe it or not, underneath the chunky chicken coated in chili sauce is a gooey egg! 🤤” and “Do try Matsuya’s hearty new dish.”
Chili Sauce and Chicken on the Iron Plate, with Egg Tucked Underneath
The photo attached to the post shows the dish served on a black iron plate. Large, chunky pieces of chicken coated in bright red chili sauce are lined up, topped with finely sliced scallion. Orange egg peeks out from between the chicken pieces and along the edge of the sauce. Just as the post states, “underneath the chunky chicken is a gooey egg,” the egg is in fact tucked beneath the chicken.
The set meal comes with a shredded cabbage salad topped with corn, white rice, and miso soup with fried tofu pouch. Matsuya’s set meals are typically served with rice and salad, and the photo follows that same layout.
“Fluffy Egg” in the Official Announcement vs. “Gooey Egg” in the Post
The official announcement that introduced this item consistently describes the egg as “fluffy egg” — for example, “wrap the juicy, chunky chicken in fluffy egg” and “together with the fluffy egg laid on the iron plate.” The taste-test post, however, describes the same egg as “gooey egg.” The word “hearty,” used in the post, doesn’t appear in the announcement’s text either.
The product’s core elements — the slightly spicy chili sauce, the chunky chicken — match the announcement, but the description of the egg has been swapped out for wording unique to the post.
The “🤤” Emoji Is Rare in “We Had It” Posts
The official X account has nearly always closed its “we had it” taste-test posts with the emoticon “(╹◡╹),” and this post is no exception. The drooling-face emoji “🤤,” on the other hand, has appeared in only a handful of these posts — past uses were limited to posts introducing especially rich combinations, such as the big June revival of Shkmeruli and Matsunoya’s Shkmeruli Loin Cutlet Set Meal. This time, the emoji accompanies the “gooey egg x chili sauce” combination.
The Name “Gorochiki” Started Out as a Nickname for a Curry
The name “Gorochiki” has long been a beloved nickname for Matsuya’s curry item, “Chunky Stewed Chicken Curry and Rice.” The new “Grilled Chicken w/ Chili Sauce Meal” marks an expansion of that name into the set-meal lineup. Matsuya has also introduced this item as the “Chinese-style version of Gorochiki,” offered in three tiers: the set meal for 990 yen, the item alone for 890 yen, and the item alone without rice for 790 yen.
Editor's Note
You could easily miss that there's an egg hiding beneath the chicken in the photo — no wonder the official account felt the need to say "believe it or not."
