Four hiyajiru-related set meals and side items that Matsuya rolled out in August 2026 disappeared all at once from the menu page of the Matsuya official website on the morning of September 15. The items are the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set (1,300 yen), the Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen), Hiyajiru Only (390 yen), and Hiyajiru Only (270 yen). With this, the entire hiyajiru lineup that launched nationwide on August 4 has ended its run.

The 4 discontinued items and their prices

Item Price Category Release date
Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set 1,300 yen Set meal August 18
Chicken Nanban Set Meal 980 yen Set meal August 18
Hiyajiru Only 390 yen Side menu August 4
Hiyajiru Only 270 yen Add-on side for lunch sets August 4

Two groups with different release dates were delisted together on the same day. Hiyajiru Only and Hiyajiru Only , released on August 4, were on sale for 42 days, while the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set and Chicken Nanban Set Meal, released on August 18, were on sale for 28 days.

About four months from the May test sale

Hiyajiru and Chicken Nanban were introduced on Matsuya’s official X account on May 7 as Miyazaki cuisine, described as “another test sale,” and were sold ahead of the nationwide launch with the hashtag “#WhileSuppliesLast.” About three months later, on August 4, three items including Hiyajiru Only launched nationwide, and on August 18 two follow-up items, the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set and the Chicken Nanban Set Meal, joined the lineup to build on the “currently popular hiyajiru.”

The Hiyajiru Vegetable Set (730 yen), which debuted on August 4, had already disappeared earlier on August 25, so the remaining four items ended together on September 15. The summer lineup centered on hiyajiru, a well-known local dish of Miyazaki, has come to a close about four months after the announcement of the May test sale.

Hiyajiru Only (390 yen) was priced 150 to 300 yen higher than other soup-type sides such as Miso Soup (90 yen), Miso Soup with Tofu (140 yen), and Miso Soup with Pork and Vegetables (240 yen), putting it in the same price range as sides like the Beef Plate (370 yen) and Seared Salmon (380 yen). Hiyajiru Only (270 yen), the add-on side for lunch sets, also carried a relatively high surcharge among the choice-of-side options.

The price range the Chicken Nanban Set Meal filled

The Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen) was the only set meal in the current lineup occupying the range from the 900-yen level up to the 1,100-yen level. Below it sat the Pork & Kimchi Set Meal, Set Meal of Grilled Beef, and Set Meal of Grilled Boneless Short Rib (all 890 yen), and above it the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal and Tomato Hamburg Steak Meal (both 1,180 yen), with no competing set meals in between.

The Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set (1,300 yen), meanwhile, sat in the upper price range among set meals. It was the second most expensive, after the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal and the Cheese Tomato Hamburg Steak Meal (1,380 yen each) at the top, and just above the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal (1,280 yen). Judging by its name and price, it appears to have combined the Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen) with Hiyajiru Only (390 yen), priced 70 yen below the simple sum of the two, 1,370 yen.

Warm “Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set” announced the same day

On September 15, the day the four hiyajiru items disappeared, a notice on the Matsuya official website announced that the “Miso Soup with Pork & Vegetables Set for Classic Menu Items” would go on sale starting the same day. Built on the same discount structure as the August 4 Hiyajiru Set, with 30 yen off for beef bowl items, 50 yen off for bowl items, and 70 yen off for set meals, it reads as a shift from cold summer sides to warm autumn ones.

This summer’s campaign centered on Miyazaki cuisine grew from single items to sets and then to a follow-up product topped with Chicken Nanban, before every item ended its run on September 15.

Editor's Note

With the season for cold soups behind us, Matsuya's sides hand the baton to warm miso soup with pork & vegetables. It feels like the end of summer.
