Matsuya Yokohama Store Ends 37 Years of Operation as Sotetsu Movil Closes

StoreClosed

Matsuya Yokohama Store (0167) closed at 3:00 PM on September 30, 2026. The store was located inside the Sotetsu Movil building in Minamisaiwai, Nishi Ward, Yokohama City, and its closure comes as the building itself is shutting down. Following the closure, the store has also been removed from the store locator on Matsuya’s official website.

“Thank You for 37 Wonderful Years” — Closing Together with Sotetsu Movil

The closure of Yokohama Store was announced in stages. Around September 9, a notice reading “Scheduled to close at 3:00 PM on September 30” was added next to the store’s name in the store locator on Matsuya’s official website. Then, on September 19, the official X account visited the store in person to report the closure. A banner reading “Thank You for 37 Wonderful Years” was displayed at the store, indicating that it would end operations at 3:00 PM on September 30 in line with the closure of the Sotetsu Movil building.

As announced, Yokohama Store ended its operations at 3:00 PM on September 30. About three weeks passed between the closure announcement and the actual closure. One notable feature of this closure was that the scheduled closing date was written into the store name field of the store locator, rather than in a regular announcement.

Only One Matsuya Remains Near Yokohama Station: Yokohama-Nishiguchi Store

Yokohama Store was located in Minamisaiwai 2-chome, Nishi Ward, Yokohama City, inside the Sotetsu Movil building on the west exit side of Yokohama Station. Also in Nishi Ward is Matsuya Yokohama-Nishiguchi Store (0254), located in Kitasaiwai 1-chome.

With the closure of Yokohama Store, Matsuya Yokohama-Nishiguchi Store is now the only Matsuya location in Nishi Ward, Yokohama City. Matsuya had operated two stores around Yokohama Station, and this closure has reduced that number to one.

Matsuya Locations in Kanagawa Prefecture Now Number 111

With the closure of Yokohama Store, the number of Matsuya locations operating in Kanagawa Prefecture has fallen to 111. Tokyo has the most locations of any prefecture, with 337. Before the closure, Kanagawa Prefecture was tied for second place with Osaka Prefecture at 112 stores each, but this closure brought its count down to 111, dropping it to third place behind Osaka Prefecture’s 112.

Editor's Note

37 years really is a long time. One of Matsuya's lights near Minamisaiwai at Yokohama Station has gone dark.
