Today, October 13, Matsuya’s official X account announced the start of sales of its “MEGA Serving,” which pairs an extra-large serving of rice with double the meat of a large serving. For one week only, two items are included: the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving” and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving.”

The Post Puts the Portion Size Front and Center

The post opens with “Starting today, October 13, ‘MEGA Serving’ arrives for one week only 🔥( ¯꒳¯ )” and pushes the volume with “Believe it or not, the rice is an extra-large serving! The meat is double a large serving!!” It closes with “Please take on the challenge this time 💪.” The text piles up exclamation marks and adds 🔥 and 💪 emoji along with the emoticon “( ¯꒳¯ )”.

It mentions no product names, prices, or end date, and instead centers on the size of the portions: “the rice is an extra-large serving” and “the meat is double a large serving.” This differs from the official announcement dated October 8 for the same fair, which listed product names, prices, and the sales period.

Two Items Included, On Sale Through October 20

According to the official announcement dated October 8, the two items are the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving” (1,200 yen) and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving” (1,140 yen), on sale for one week from October 13 through October 20. They are sold at Matsuya stores nationwide.

The photo attached to the post shows two bowls side by side. On the left is the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl MEGA Serving,” topped with shredded nori and kimchi, with seared meat covering the rice. On the right is the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl MEGA Serving,” with a large amount of scallions and tenkasu piled on top of grilled pork loin. Both bowls are filled with toppings right up to the rim.

The regular “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” costs 690 yen, and the regular “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl” costs 630 yen. The MEGA Serving surcharge is the same for both, at 510 yen.

An Extended Return of the August 29 “Meat Day” Offering

The official announcement explains that these two items were “very well received” when offered for one day only on “Meat Day,” August 29 of this year, and that they are returning “with the sales period extended to one week.” On August 29, they were sold as the “Large Serving Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” and the “Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl,” available for one day only and exclusively through orders on the official Matsuya app. This time they return under the new name “MEGA Serving,” with the sales period extended to one week and the order-method restriction lifted. Prices remain the same as on August 29, at 1,200 yen and 1,140 yen.

Separately, a campaign giving 1,000 Matsuya Points to 30 winners by lottery to commemorate the launch of the MEGA Serving bowls was also announced on the same day, October 13.
