Matsuya Locations in Chiba City Remain at 14, Even During the Closure

The number of Matsuya stores operating in Chiba City, including Chiba Store, is 14. Across Chiba Prefecture as a whole, there are 78 stores, making it the fifth-largest prefecture nationwide by store count, after Tokyo’s 337, Osaka Prefecture’s 112, Kanagawa Prefecture’s 111, and Saitama Prefecture’s 104 (1,220 stores nationwide in total).

Ahead of Chiba Store’s closure, a new store, Matsuya Chiba Nitona Store (2327, 702-2 Nitona-cho, Chuo Ward, Chiba City), is scheduled to open at 10:00 AM on October 20, also in Chuo Ward, Chiba City. Because the new store’s opening comes six days before Chiba Store’s closure, the number of Matsuya locations operating in Chiba City remains unchanged at 14 even while Chiba Store is closed. The planned opening of Chiba Nitona Store was also reported on October 6, at which time Chiba Store was named as one of the existing stores in Chuo Ward. It is that same Chiba Store that is now entering a temporary closure.

A Seven-Day Closure Is Short by Past Standards

Across Matsuya locations nationwide, temporary closures followed by reopenings occur throughout the year. Looking at past announced closures, the average duration is about 11 days, ranging from as short as 18 hours to as long as about 45 days. At seven days, Chiba Store’s closure falls on the shorter end compared to these past cases.
