Matsuya Musashimurayama Store Relocates About 145m, Reopens as a Combo Store with Matsunoya

Matsuya Musashimurayama Store in Musashimurayama City, Tokyo, relocated about 145 meters west-northwest within the city as of September 1. The old store (code 0060) at 3-37-2 Gakuen closed at 9:00 a.m. that day, and an hour later, at 10:00 a.m., the new store (code 2319) at 4-112-1 Shinmei, about 145 meters away, opened as a combo store co-located with the tonkatsu chain Matsunoya. The old store has been removed from the store list on Matsuya’s official website, and as of September 1, the opening-notice label that had been attached to the new store has also disappeared, switching to a regular listing.

Timeline from the Old Store’s Closing to the New Store’s Opening

As of August 4, Matsuya’s official website had added a note to the old store’s name reading, “*Scheduled to close at 9:00 a.m. on September 1. Thank you for your patronage,” and a note to the new store’s name — which was added to the list that same day — reading, “*Opening at 10:00 a.m. on September 1.” As announced roughly a month in advance, the old store in Gakuen closed and the new store in Shinmei opened on September 1. The gap between the closing and the opening was one hour, with both the old store’s final day of business and the new store’s opening day falling on September 1.

The address changed from Gakuen 3-chome to Shinmei 4-chome, and the location on the map moved about 145 meters to the west-northwest. The store code also switched from 0060 to 2319, making this a relocation in which the store was rebuilt on a different plot while carrying over the same store name.

Shift from a Standalone Store to a Store Co-located with Matsunoya

While the old store was a standalone Matsuya location without a co-located tonkatsu restaurant, the new store is listed as a combo store co-located with Matsunoya from the moment it opened. Rather than a simple relocation, this was a rebuild-and-move that also changed the store format.

Matsuya locations co-located with Matsunoya number 52 out of 337 stores in Tokyo (about 15.4%) and 479 nationwide. This format is not unusual for Matsuya, and the Musashimurayama store has now joined their ranks.

There is more than one way to add a co-located Matsunoya. The same August 4 announcement also covered Matsuya Kami-Shakujii Store (code 0338) in Tokyo, announcing that it would suspend operations starting at 3:00 p.m. on August 4 and reopen at 10:00 a.m. on September 18 with a co-located Matsunoya. Whereas the Musashimurayama store moved to a new address along with a new store code, the Kami-Shakujii store is set to be renovated and gain a co-located Matsunoya while keeping the same address and the same store code — a different path to the same result.

Musashimurayama City Still Has Just One Matsuya After the Move

With this relocation, Musashimurayama City continues to have just one Matsuya location. From August 4 onward, the old store in Gakuen and the new store in Shinmei had appeared side by side in the official website’s store list, but with both the old store’s closing and the new store’s opening taking place on September 1, the single location has now passed to the Matsunoya-co-located store in Shinmei.

Looking at neighboring municipalities, Tachikawa City has 4 stores, Higashiyamato City has 2, Fussa City has 2, and Akishima City has 1 — this area was never a dense cluster of Matsuya locations to begin with. Even so, the move does not mean Matsuya disappears from Musashimurayama City; business continues about 145 meters from the old store, in Shinmei, at the new location co-located with Matsunoya.
